We have spent six weeks unpacking the six zones of the body. Glandular. Eliminative. Nervous. Digestive. Muscular. And now Circulatory.

Here is what holds them all together. Every adjustment we make, every nutrient you eat, every breath you take, every signal your nervous system sends — none of it matters if your body cannot deliver it where it needs to go.

Blood carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, immune cells. Lymph clears waste. Capillaries reach every tissue. When circulation is strong, healing happens. When it is sluggish, recovery slows. The body cannot rebuild what it cannot supply. This is why we save the circulatory zone for last. Not because it is least important. Because everything else depends on it.

Friday we close the deep dive series. Zone 6 of 6. The Circulatory Zone. The system that delivers everything else.

You do not need to be an athlete to protect your heart. A 2023 study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine analysed data from more than 30,000 adults. The finding was strikingly simple. Even ten minutes of walking per day reduced cardiovascular disease risk by up to 20 percent. Twenty minutes nearly doubled the benefit.

This is not biohacking. It is not expensive. It is not complicated. It is the most basic human movement, done consistently.

The circulatory zone is the system that delivers everything your body needs to every tissue that needs it. Movement supports it. Stillness restricts it. Yarmouth has the seafront. The promenade. The beach. You have the best circulatory zone medicine in town right outside your front door. If you walk ten minutes today, you have already done more for your long-term health than most modern interventions can deliver.

We evolved walking. Lifting. Carrying. Climbing. Squatting to rest. Moving through varied terrain all day long. Now most of us sit. To work. To eat. To travel. To relax. The average adult sits for nine hours a day, in a body designed to move for most of its waking life. The muscular zone pays the price. Hips tighten. Glutes switch off. The lower back takes load it was never meant to carry. The neck creeps forward toward the screen. Tension settles into patterns that feel permanent. But the body has not forgotten how to move. It is just waiting for the chance. You do not need a gym membership or a new routine. You need to interrupt the stillness. Stand every thirty minutes. Walk after meals. Take the stairs. Get on the floor and back up again. Walk the Yarmouth seafront instead of scrolling. Small movement, often, beats hard movement, rarely. Motion is not just exercise. It is the language your body speaks. This week, give it a few more words.

Tight muscles tell stories. The neck that locks up before a difficult conversation. The shoulders that hold every email you have not replied to. The jaw that clenches at 3am. The lower back that tightens after a stressful week. The hamstrings that refuse to let go. The muscular zone is where stress lives in the body. It is also where most chiropractors stop looking. Most clinics adjust the tight muscle, the painful joint, the restricted segment. They are not wrong to. But they are working with the visible signal, not the invisible cause. The Zone Technique treats the muscular zone as one of six. We ask why this muscle is tight. Is the nervous zone driving the tension? Is the glandular zone, cortisol or low thyroid, keeping muscles guarded? Is the digestive zone, inflammation or food triggers, feeding the pattern? Is posture the cause, or is it downstream of something deeper? When we identify the right zone first, the muscular tension often releases on its own, sometimes within a single session. When we go straight to the muscle without assessing why it is gripping, the relief is temporary. The pattern returns within weeks. This is why people say chiropractic did not work for them. It probably did. Just on the wrong zone. Next Friday: Zone 6. The Circulatory Zone. The final piece.

Real Yarmouth patient. Real story. Real result. So many people come to us after years of chasing the same knot. Massage after massage. Stretch after stretch. Brief relief, then it returns. The difference here is that we look for why the muscle is gripping, not just where it hurts. When we find and address the cause, the tension that has been there for years often releases and stays released.
We have two chiropractors at Marine Parade. Dr Mustafa specialises in the Zone Technique. Dr Ryan focuses on evidence-based chiropractic care and SOT. Both are accepting new patients.

We treat tight muscles like the enemy. We stretch them, roll them, dig into them, force them to let go. And they fight back, because we are working against the body, not with it. Here is what most people are never told. A tight muscle is rarely the problem. It is the body asking for help. Muscles guard. It is their job. When a joint is not moving well, when the nervous system is on high alert, when an old injury never fully resolved, the surrounding muscles lock down to protect the area. The tension is not a malfunction. It is protection that got stuck on. This is why the knot keeps coming back no matter how hard you work on it. You are treating the alarm, not the fire. The Zone Technique looks for why the muscle is gripping in the first place. Release the cause, and the muscle lets go without a fight.

Friday we go deep into this. Zone 5 of 6. The Muscular Zone. Where stress lives in the body.

For decades, the advice for a bad back was simple. Rest it. The largest review of the evidence ever assembled says the opposite. In 2021, a Cochrane review brought together 249 randomised trials with over 24,000 patients. It is one of the largest systematic reviews ever published in chiropractic and rehabilitation research. The conclusion was clear: for adults with chronic low back pain, exercise therapy reduces pain compared to no treatment, usual care, or placebo. The improvement was meaningful. On average, patients receiving exercise treatment rated their pain 15 points better on a 0-100 scale compared to those who had no treatment or usual care. That is real, clinically relevant relief, backed by the strongest evidence we have. This does not mean push through serious pain or ignore a real injury. It means the body is built to move, and for chronic back pain, the evidence is overwhelming. Movement is treatment. Chiropractic care helps restore the joint motion that lets you move freely again. Then movement does the rest. This is why every care plan we build here includes a movement component, not just adjustments. Full review link in first comment.

Your gut has more nerve cells than your spinal cord. It produces 90 percent of your serotonin, the neurotransmitter most associated with mood. It houses trillions of bacteria that communicate directly with your brain through the vagus nerve, influencing how you think, how you feel, how you respond to stress. It is not a passive tube. It is a thinking, sensing, regulating organ.

Most of us were taught the brain is the boss and the gut just does what it is told. The science says otherwise. The gut sends more signals up than the brain sends down. Which means if you want to think clearly, you need to digest well.

If you want to feel steady, you need a healthy microbiome. If you want to sleep deeply, you need a gut that is not inflamed. This week, one small rhythm to honour your second brain. Chew slowly. Eat without your phone. Stop eating three hours before bed. Notice the difference within a week.

Your gut is talking. Are you listening?

Zone 4 of 6

The digestive zone is where food becomes energy, hormones, repair, and thought. The stomach acidifies. The pancreas releases enzymes. The gallbladder delivers bile. The small intestine extracts nutrients. The brain monitors every step. When this zone is under stress, it is not just your stomach that suffers. Bloating after meals. Heaviness that lasts hours. Cravings you cannot explain. A 3pm energy crash. A mood that swings with what you ate. Skin that flares when certain foods enter the picture. Sleep that suffers after a heavy dinner. The digestive zone is in constant conversation with the nervous zone. They share the vagus nerve, the longest cranial nerve in the body. This is why your gut feels every emotion and your mood follows your meals. They are not separate. They are one system speaking through two voices. The Zone Technique often finds the digestive zone under stress in patients who think they are coming in for back pain. The connection is not coincidental. The lower thoracic and upper lumbar spine share nerve roots with the digestive organs. When digestion struggles, the spine reflects it. When the spine is treated without addressing the digestive zone, results are partial.

Next Friday: Zone 5. The Muscular Zone.
