We had a smoothie making afternoon in honour of the International Smoothie Making Day, where we made a non-alcoholic pina colada. This coconut-based smoothie scored eight out of ten with our lovely residents. Then we made a 'green machine' smoothie, made principally from spinach, that scored even better, with it being awarded a mark of nine. A disappointing third entry was the 'very berry' smoothie because there were just too many seeds in it for our residents' tastes. The overall winner, however, was a tropical creation made from prunes. Our lovely residents were not particularly looking forward to it because of the childhood association of having prunes, but it was delightful and it scored full marks from our discerning tasting panel. Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon.

We had a 'crafty' afternoon that involved yellow paper plates and paper cups. Some of our lovely residents were mystified when our wellbeing co-ordinator, Hayley, appeared with them. It turned out that the group was going to make some golden daffodils. Residents had to have a bit of help with the templates for the daffodils but everyone had a great deal of fun assembling them. The results were delightful and some extra daffodils were made so that they could be given to others and proudly displayed in bedrooms and around the home.

On Saturday night our very own Hayley attended The National Stars of Social Care Awards in London. Hayley unfortunately came second as the Highly Recommended Award. Hayley was joined for the awards by her partner Jamie, manager Vinny and Area Director Vicki. Congratulations Hayley second in a very hotly contested category.

We had a visit by a choir called 'Singing for Pleasure'. Six of their members delighted us with a medley of songs, including some from ABBA, the Beatles and some of the classic choir harmony songs. They had a guitarist who provided the music, but many of their songs were sung a ca****la. The very experienced choir sang with beautiful harmonies that entertained our lovely residents. Our wellbeing co-ordinator, Hayley, was privileged to add her own voice to those of the choir for a few of the songs. Everyone said that it was a super afternoon of high-quality choral singing and that they are very much looking forward to another performance at Clarendon Hall's Open Day on Saturday 20th June.

We took some of our lovely residents to Weelsby Hall on two occasions. This followed on from the visit that some of their members of staff and students made to Clarendon Hall last week with just a few of the animals that they look after. We were treated to a full tour of the facilities and many of our residents were entranced by all the lovely animals and fish that they look after as part of the Linkage Trust's course of looking after small animals for students with disabilities and autism. The most unusual animals that we saw were some extremely beautiful and rare ducks and a most unusual snake and many of our residents were brave enough to handle it. We were treated to a guided tour around the historic Weelsby Hall and we were very privileged to see all the amazing architectural features that still exist in the building. There was also a display outlining the fascinating and varied history of the hall and its origins. Everyone really enjoyed the visits and were very grateful to the Linkage Trust for their warm hospitality.

We had a visit from some animals that are kept at Weelsby Hall Small Animal Care Centre as part of their animal course to support students with learning disabilities. We were graced with a tortoise, a giant African snail, two fluffy rabbits and a guinea pig and a gecko lizard. The amazing members of staff and their students did a fascinating 'show and tell' presentation about the animals in the lounge and then the rabbits were taken round to see our lovely residents in their rooms. Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and the most questions and interactions were about the African snail, since this is hardly a common sight in North East Lincolnshire, and also the speed of the tortoise that hurried across the lounge floor at an unexpected rate of knots!

We had a game of rollerball, which consisted of rolling the ball towards an opponent in the hope that the 'goalie' at the other end of the board missed it and a point was therefore scored. We clearly had some very good goalkeepers amongst our lovely residents because it sometimes took as many as thirty rolls before a goal was scored. The crowd then went wild and Hayley, our wellbeing co-ordinator, played everyone and never won a match! Despite the very competitive nature of the game, a great deal of fun and enjoyment was had by all.
