New 2026 Social Care Workforce Report: Why Care Seekers Should Ask About Care Home Leadership.

The latest findings from the State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce in England 2026 report highlights the importance of stable care home leadership as a critical indicator of care quality for care seekers.

The report links longer-serving managers with more stable teams and better CQC ratings while also recognising that a change in leadership at improve homes can be a clear sign of improvement.

So what does this means for care seekers?

When short-listing homes on line use real-time ratings like OpenScore alongside the CQC inspection ratings to make sure you have the most most up to date picture of a workforce stability and alongside other quality indicators

When visiting a care home ask the following questions:

✅ Who is the current registered manager?
✅ How long have they been in post?
✅ Has the leadership team changed since the last inspection?
✅ What improvements have been made recently?

The more you can understand about a home's current situation, the more reassured you can feel about the quality of care a home is giving.

📌 73% described finding the right care home as urgent
📌 89% said real-time information is essential when choosing care for a relative
