โก๏ธ Yesterday, we experienced a prolonged power outage due to an external fault affecting the local power grid.
๐ The power was off from approximately 9:00am until just after 8:00pm, resulting in a complete loss of electricity, internet access ๐ป and telephone lines โ๏ธ.
๐ As a specialist dementia day care service, we quickly adapted to minimise any impact on the people who use our service.
Despite the challenges, it was very much business ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ผ as usual, with our high staff ratios, specialist knowledge, evidence-based practice, and person-centred approach ensuring everyone continued to receive the support they needed ๐ซ
๐ Rather than allowing the situation to disrupt the day, we turned it into an opportunity. We enjoyed a trip out, renewed our annual passes at Kirkleatham Museum ๐๏ธ, and spent the day exploring, reminiscing and socialising together ๐.
๐ฝ๏ธ We also supported local businesses by enjoying lunch out and carrying out the very important task of sampling local cafรฉs in search of the best coffee โ and cake ๐ฐ!
๐ฅช With no power to our fridges and freezers, we made the decision to distribute food within the local community to prevent unnecessary waste โป๏ธโค๏ธ.
๐ A huge thank you to Beyond Housing for their support and check ins, and Northern Powergrid who worked tirelessly throughout the day in truly dreadful weather conditions ๐ง๏ธ๐จ to restore power to our service.
And not forgetting our FABULOUS STAFF โญ๏ธ๐ซถโค๏ธ
๐ช Challenges may arise, but with teamwork, flexibility and a positive attitude, thereโs always a way to make the best of the situation.
