Fast is over! Lasted 43 hours but had a rubbish nights sleep due to a high resting heart rate! Felt that I’d taken it far enough and feel pretty good for doing it!

First 24 hours done!

Not been difficult but not been easy either! Constantly battling with the routine of making and eating food and not being allowed too.

Blood sugar levels yesterday were:-
3pm 6.4
6pm 2.4 (noticeable slump in energy)
9pm 6.4

So, how did my blood glucose levels come back up between 6pm and 9pm without ingesting any food?

The human body has evolved from adaptations to the availability of food due to seasonal choices, famine, etc. One of those adaptations is Gluconeogenesis, the conversion of ketones and fat into glucose that keeps fuelling the brain. The brain will eventually be able to use fat-derived ketones for about 50-75% of its energy requirements.

Gluconeogenesis
Gluco - Glucose
Neo - New
Genesis - Creation

Basically, the creation of new glucose, from an alternative pathway.

I’ve measured my ketone level and it’s currently at 3.5mmol which is classed as ‘Nutritional Ketosis’ (well slightly above it - 0.5 - 3.0. I’ll not want this to go too high though as it can get dangerous. This is burning fat as the primary fuel source.

This morning I ate my last meal! I’m attempting a three day fast. A combination of self experimentation, continued fat adaptation and curiosity led me to making this decision.
I’m monitoring my weight, blood sugar levels, body fat percentage and muscle mass every day, three times a day.
I stopped eating at 11 o’clock with my last meal below. Some good healthy fats, protein and minimal carbs.
I’ll keep a constant watch on my stats and if I feel at all not right or blood sugar levels drop too low then I’ll be eating again.
So far it’s been a routine challenge as I’m used to having a supply of readily available foods at hand.
Will update tomorrow!
