British Society of Lifestyle Medicine Preventing, treating, managing and reversing chronic disease using evidence-based lifestyle medicine. Visit www.bslm.org.uk for more information.

Imagine a world free from an ever increasing burden of disease related to living an

unhealthy lifestyle; a world free from disease which is currently suppressing the wellbeing

of individuals, straining society healthcare systems and driving inequality. The current

management of lifestyle-related diseases is dominated by the use of pharmaceuticals, but

this approach does not tackle the root causes of such diseases. The British Society of

Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM) believes that using Lifestyle as Medicine is a more effective

and sustainable way of managing illness. Lifestyle Medicine is not only simple and cost-effective, it empowers individuals to take

their health into their own hands. BSLM is building a multidisciplinary network of

healthcare professionals who believe in re-energising the healthcare system and

reframing it away from disease towards health. We are a group who want to collaborate

by sharing our knowledge of using Lifestyle as Medicine to build a reliable, evidence-
informed resource which can help you and your patients to lead healthier lifestyles. BSLM

warmly invites you to join an energetic, resourceful and creative society and to be part of

a global alliance for sustainable healthy change. Let’s turn the tide of disease for the

greater good of our patients, our communities, ourselves and our planet.

Looking for a simple way to boost your daily intake of fibre and omega 3? 🥣

Our organisational member Linwoods highlights the nutritional benefits of adding milled flaxseed to everyday meals:

Flaxseed is quietly one of the most nutritionally dense seeds you can add to a daily routine 🌱

A 20g serving of Linwoods Milled Flaxseed provides 4.1g of fibre (fibre is a key component of good digestive health), 4.6g of protein, which contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass and the maintenance of normal bones, and 4.0g of Omega 3 (ALA), an essential fatty acid that supports normal cholesterol levels and can't be made by the body, so it has to come from food âś…

All from one spoonful stirred into porridge, yoghurt or a smoothie 🥣

We want to advise our followers that we as a charity welcome membership from organisations aligned with our aims, and in line with strict ethical and sponsorship policies in order to provide funding sources to the charity 🤝

If you have a query around the subject matter we will happily discuss this with you, do drop us a DM or email: [email protected] as we want to make sure this content is a good fit for you 👥

What does evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine look like in PMOS care? đź’

Lifestyle intervention is a fundamental part of PMOS management, but Lifestyle Medicine encompasses much more than weight loss or dietary advice alone.

Our BSLM Women’s Health Special Interest Group has developed a practical, evidence-based resource exploring how the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine can be incorporated into PMOS care.

It considers nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, reducing harmful exposures and positive social connection, and the evidence supporting their relevance to metabolic health, wellbeing and long-term health.

Happy AHPs Day 2026! 🙌

This year’s theme, Celebrating AHPs Deliver, highlights the important contribution Allied Health Professionals make across health and care.

At BSLM 2026, our trustee Sheetal Ladva spoke about why Lifestyle Medicine is a team sport. As she said, “Advice is a starting point. Coordinated support is the intervention.” Collaboration helps us put people at the centre of care and bring different professional perspectives together 🤝

At BSLM, we’re creating opportunities for AHPs to connect and learn, from our first AHP engagement session earlier this year, to Learning Academy bursary opportunities and courses such as Lifestyle Medicine Principles for Non-Clinical Staff.

This AHP Day, think of an AHP colleague who might benefit from being part of BSLM. Share this post and invite them to join our community!

Lifestyle Medicine is about more than understanding the evidence. It’s also about having the practical skills to support people to make meaningful, lasting changes 🙌

Dr Rupa Joshi highlights the importance of using these skills to deliver Lifestyle Medicine in practice and introduces the resources available on the BSLM website to help healthcare professionals develop their approach.

To explore these skills further, join us online on 24th November 2026 for our Lifestyle Medicine Skills Study Day. The session will introduce practical approaches to supporting lifestyle change and offers six hours of CPD. A recording will also be sent to everyone who registers.

World Mental Health Day 2026 🧠

This year’s theme is “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.”

Mental wellbeing is one of the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine, making World Mental Health Day an important conversation for our community. This year’s theme also highlights something we really value at BSLM, which is listening to people with lived experience.

Our Voices of Lived Experience group brings the patient voice to the forefront of what we do. Members share their personal journeys, help create resources and work to eliminate barriers to lifestyle medicine education.

We’ve recently launched our Patient and Public page, where you can hear directly from members of the group and learn more about their experiences.
