Let’s talk money. 💷
Support worker pay starts around £26.5k, but where does it go from there? Pak breaks down the ladder: 📈 Senior: £27k+ 📈 Deputy: £33k+ 📈 Manager: £50k+ (thanks to a national shortage!)
There is a career path here if you're willing to climb it.

What makes someone walk away from a successful career in architecture to support children with disabilities?

In this honest Q+A, Pak — a Senior Residential Support Worker — shares his journey from designing buildings in Hong Kong to supporting young people in a UK children’s home.

We talk about:

What a Support Worker actually does day to day
The realities of shift work, personal care, and long hours
Training and qualifications (Level 3 & Level 5 explained)
Support Worker pay, sleep-ins, and progression to management
Why compassion matters more than qualifications
How personal experiences shaped his career choice

Pak also offers thoughtful advice for anyone considering a career change into social care — especially those who want meaningful work that genuinely improves young people’s lives.

If you’re curious about becoming a Children’s Support Worker, working in residential childcare, or progressing to roles like Deputy Manager or Registered Manager, this is a must-watch.

"If it's about money... go be an architect." 🗣️

Pak doesn't sugarcoat what it's like being a support worker. He studied architecture and was working in Hong Kong only to realise it had no meaning for him.

He now works in residential care in the UK helping young people live a better life.

If you're just here to clock in, sit down, and wait for the shift to end, you're wasting your time—and failing the young people. You need a 'Why' that keeps you going when the job gets hard.

What’s yours?
