Day 1 complete in the FREE 5 Day Taster Session.

I introduced meditation, the three skills that you practice in meditation and the big benefit to menopause.

We discussed where HRT is not the magic pill to feeling normal again. It is a whole self approach to gain balance at this time in your life.

We tried out a meditation, one with lots of focus on the breath as a good introduction. Feeling's of relaxation flowed.

I am excited for tonight.

The meditation we will practice this evening is aligned to the symptoms of meditation of anxiety and low self esteem.

One of the symptoms I have struggled with during menopause has been changes in my digestion.

I have been vegetarian for 35 years and in the last ten years, since menopause began, issues started with garlic, red pepper and wheat. All things I ate regularly.

Garlic and red pepper are short term reactions that are gone within 24 hours.

Wheat causes longer term issues that last days and makes me feel dreadful.

I totally avoid it all three these days due to the impact they have on my health and quality of life.

The gut is responsible for managing neurotransmitters, such as serotonin - responsible for happiness, dopamine and melatonin. All influence mood and sleep.

These are some of the main symptoms of menopause that women struggle with.

Loving your gut can have an impact on those symptoms.

Research has discovered a special set of gut microbiome that plays a crucial role in detoxifying and eliminating hormones. With the gut out of balance it can result in hormones, especially oestrogen being reabsorbed which can heighten menopause symptoms.

Meditation has an impact on gut health as it activates the parasympathetic nervous system – the rest and digest response. This can alleviate digestive issues by easing IBS, maintaining a healthy gut barrier, removing inflammation and improving nutrient absorption and metabolism.

It is Friday and Friday's can be a rush as we get work to a straight edge for the weekend.

Even more so for me as the chidlren break up for half term and my eldest returns from uni for the weekend.

I want you to do something today that your future self will be grateful for.

Take 10 minutes to concentrate on you, no distractions, just you and your thoughts.

Now I don't want you to try to hard, don't force your thoughts, relax and let your thoughts wash over you.

Don't judge them, don't judge you.

It can be so easy to jump to the negative and let our standard narrative take over. Beating ourselves up over not having done something as we think we should have done, something we have said or didn't say. Don't judge your thoughts, just let them be.

Just be.

For 10 minutes just be you with no distractions.

Enjoy the feeling.

You will be surprised with how you feel after just 10 minutes of being you.

You most certainly can't choose to have menopause, it will happen.

But you can choose how you deal with it.

Thankfully there is a lot more discussion about peri-menopause and menopause, I even heard yesterday discussion about a mandatory appoinyment for all women once they reach 45.

What I have found is that all experiences are unique. So not only are the symptoms unique so is there experience of any medication.

I have been on HRT for over 10 years and I would say at least 5 different versions.

Patches didn't agree with me, it took three attempts before the right dose of tablets worked. And don't talk tome about when they change the make and they say the active ingredient is the same so it will be the same. It never is!!

HRT did a great job at dealing with hot flushes and as I went into early menopause it protected my bones.

But it just never did anything for my mind. It was overactive especially at 2am when I had woken up with night sweats. HRT helped somewhat but being awake in the night is just something that happens.

I looked for other ways to help and I found meditation.

Mediation has helped with going to sleep and more importantly it helps at 2am.

Instead of beating myself up for being awake and being able to go back to sleep. I have headphones next to my bed and listen to a guided meditation.

This relaxes me, focuses my mind but more importantly makes me feel I am doing something useful.

So even if I am awake an hour or more it has been a useful hour and I go back to sleep in a good mood rather than frustrated at myself.

World Menopause Day is on the 18th October and the theme for this year is Cognition and Mood.

So cognition, brain fog - it is real!!!

It is all these things:
- difficulty remembering words or numbers
- misplacing keys
- trouble concentrating
- easily distracted
- forgetting appointments
- forgetting why you came into a room
- loosing you train of thought.

The causes of brain fog are rising and falling hormones, especially estrogen, hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood changes and night sweats. All of these make you feel rubbish.

You may find that HRT helps improve brain fog. So can reducing the frequency and severity of hot flushes and night sweats. Improving sleep is a big help as this helps with mood, there is nothing worse that trying to exist on limited sleep.

Obviously a healthy lifestyle helps with great food and limited alcohol.

But meditation can support you during peri-menopause and menopause.

We had a blast💥

The first class of this programme was filled with lovely ladies.

We talked menopause and I shared my journey over the last 10 years since early menopause and what led me to teaching meditation.

We learnt how the relaxation response kicks in through meditation and the benefits especially when in peri- menopause and menopause.

And they got to take away some lovely gift bags 🎁
