Slum doctor project

Slum doctor project The mission of Slum Doctor Project is to provide life saving medical treatment(s) (including advice We set up "camp" at locations in the developing world.

In partnership with local charities and their staff, we provide medical care, free of charge. We aim to empower and educate the patient and the population that we are serving. We aim to up-skill ourselves and the clinicians that we work with by exchanging knowledge and technique. The charity is run by a multi-disciplinary team of volunteers. This means that our staff costs are zero. 100% of what i

s donated is spent on patient care. In order to pay for the delivery of care, fund raising activities are organized. Any money that is raised through donations is used to pay for medicines, treatment and education of the population where the camp is held. (Please note, very occasionally we allow volunteers to ask for donations to fund their expenses. If donations are sought for this purpose, this will be made very clear.) Whilst the charity was registered in 2011, the leading members of the group have been undertaking this activity since 2001. The group started off small, originally there was just one doctor in the camp, which ran for two days, seeing upto 100 patients, mainly with problems related to Diabetes, The group gradually grown. It was felt that it should be formalized resulting in a company limited by Guarantee in 2009, which was converted into a charity in 2011.

Here at Slumdoctor we are organising eye surgery camps in India, Africa and South America.

One-month expeditions are planned for the hospitals San Martin de Porres, Cameroon (November 2018), Guadalupe, Ecuador (February 2019), Sant Sarwan Dass Charitable Eye Hospital, India (March 2019), Saint-Jean De Dieu, Benin (May 2019), St Joseph Eye Hospital, Nigeria (July 2019) and Guadalupe (same as above) (October 2019). St Joseph Hospital, Ghana probably in 2020.

We have partnered up with a couple of eye surgeons. In order to allow them to operate, a set of good microsurgical instruments needs to be purchased, costing approx. £1000..

The picture shows a patient with Pterygium. He can have his sight saved with a simple microsurgical operation. Without surgery, he would be blind in the near future.

The next trip is organised to start on the 20th November 2018. Would you help raising the funds so we can bring the instruments to Cameroon by then?

by doing this you will be able to contribute to this project, which should result in many hundreds of patients who would not be able to access surgery to be operated upon.

Please feel free to share this with your contacts.

Thanks in advance for your attention.
