Wow! What a day! Our very own Damian MacCallum completed his challenge to run 26 laps in the Ogden Ultra. Damian, who has retinitis pigmentosa took on this challenge, which he completed in under 8 hours, to raise funds and awareness of Sight Support Calderdale.
We are so proud of him!
A huge thank you to all the Mayor of Calderdale, members, volunteers, trustees, staff and friends and family who came along to encourage Damian or join him for a lap or two. Your support means so much and really helped Damian to keep his spirit up.

Please note that the Sight Centre, offices and café area at Sight Support Calderdale will be closed on Monday due to the Bank Holiday.

For the remainder of the week, our café area will be temporarily closed while staff carry out essential office work. However, all support groups and activities will continue to run as normal.

The 2026 World Cup is almost here, and we’re running a World Cup Sweepstake at Sight Support Calderdale! âšœ

For just £3 per team, you can be in with the chance of winning a £72 cash prize if all teams are taken. 🏆

To enter, simply pop into our Sight Centre at 7 Southgate, pay your £3, and pick your team out of the tub to see who you’ll be backing during the tournament.

Entries close before the first game kicks off on 11th June, so make sure to get your team before then!

Every entry helps support the work we do for people living with sight loss across Calderdale.

Come and visit us at our stall outside Marks & Spencer in Halifax town centre on Friday 22nd May, from 10:00am–2:00pm!

As well as sharing information about the support and services available from Sight Support Calderdale, we’ll also be running a tombola at the stall with prizes to be won, so it’s well worth stopping by and saying hello. You may also spot some of our volunteers around town throughout the day handing out flyers and helping spread awareness about the work we do.

Our Sight Centre and cafĂ© area at 7 Southgate will still be open as normal, with Di’s Pies available as usual on Friday, so whether you visit us in town or at the centre, we’d love to see you.

We’re excited to be attending this year’s Halifax Charity Gala! 🎉

The 68th Halifax Charity Gala takes place on Saturday 13th June at Manor Heath Park, and we’re looking forward to being part of such a fantastic Halifax tradition.

Tomorrow at our Companions Group, we will be welcoming Lucy from Vita Health Group to talk about the support available through NHS Talking Therapies in Calderdale.

The session will explore the different ways Vita Health can support people with things such as stress, anxiety, low mood and depression, as well as how to access the service and what support is available locally. It promises to be an interesting and informative morning in a friendly and relaxed environment.

Yesterday, our SocialEyes group enjoyed a fascinating visit to The Piece Hall, where they were shown around the historic building and even had the chance to ring the trading bell! 🔔

A huge thank you to volunteer Jill, who shared the incredible history of the world’s only remaining original Georgian cloth hall. Opened in 1779 for the trading of “pieces” of handwoven cloth, The Piece Hall has stood at the heart of Halifax for nearly 250 years and remains one of Yorkshire’s most iconic landmarks.

It was a brilliant afternoon filled with history, conversation, and plenty of interest from the group.
