Paul Iannelli and Sarah Hodkinson's first race is complete, with four more to go!

At the weekend, Paul and guide runner Sarah completed the first of their five 10K fundraising races in support of Sight Support Calderdale. Taking on the Leeds 10K, they crossed the finish line in an impressive 1 hour and 8 minutes!

Over the coming months, Paul and Sarah will be tackling a series of 10K events to raise funds for Sight Support Calderdale, and we are incredibly grateful for the time and effort they are putting into this challenge.

Their next race takes place at Aintree, and we’ll be cheering them on all the way!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall at the Halifax Gala on Saturday.

It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to connect with the local community, talk about sight loss, and share more about the support available through Sight Support Calderdale.

Our visual impairment simulation penalties proved particularly popular, giving people the chance to experience some of the challenges that sight loss can present while attempting to score a goal. The challenge sparked lots of conversations throughout the day and was enjoyed by people of all ages – including the Mayor, who was brave enough to step up and take a penalty himself!

A big thank you to everyone who visited us, took part, and helped raise awareness of sight loss across Calderdale.

Over the past few months the Energeyes group has grown steadily, but what's been most impressive is the progress being made by those attending. Many members are now using weights they would never have thought possible when they first joined the group, and week by week they continue to push themselves a little further.

A big thank you to Oliver, whose encouragement and belief in the group has helped members take on challenges they might once have thought were beyond them. By now, most members know that saying "I can't do it" is a sure-fire way to find themselves giving it a go.

Energeyes takes place every Wednesday from 1:30pm to 2:30pm at Queens Sport and Fitness Club.

To find out more about the group and how to get involved, contact the Sight Support Calderdale office on 01422 352383.

We'll be at the Halifax Charity Gala this Saturday!

Come and visit us at our stall to find out more about the support we provide for people living with sight loss across Calderdale.

We'll also be bringing our simulation spectacles, giving you the chance to experience different visual impairments and then put your skills to the test by taking a penalty while wearing them. It's a fun challenge that helps raise awareness of some of the everyday difficulties people with sight loss can face.

Gala tickets are available from us at 7 Southgate for just £2 each, or £6 on the day. 🎟️

We hope to see you there!👋

During Volunteers' Week, we want to take a moment to say a truly heartfelt thank you to every volunteer who gives their time to Sight Support Calderdale.

Whether you're guiding members on Walkie Talkies groups, helping to run SocialEyes activities, welcoming people into the Sight Centre and café, recording, editing and administering the Calderdale Talking News service, assisting at fundraising events and being fundraisers themselves, or representing us in the community, your time and dedication help make our charity what it is.

Today, we have closed the Sight Centre and Social Engagement Café so that staff and volunteers can come together for a special celebration event. It feels only right to take the opportunity to recognise and thank the people who give so much to Sight Support Calderdale throughout the year.

The photographs in this post capture just a small snapshot of the incredible contribution our volunteers make throughout the year. Alongside them, our Chief Officer, Faye Herbert, has shared a letter expressing her personal thanks and appreciation for everything you do.

To each and every one of our volunteers, thank you. The difference you make can be seen across every part of Sight Support Calderdale, and we are incredibly proud and grateful to have you as part of our team.

Eight brave fundraisers, one iconic Halifax landmark, and over £3,500 raised for Sight Support Calderdale.

A huge thank you to David Mallinson, Stuart Airey, Ann-marie Clark-Collins, Jacky, Nick from Hop In - Craft Beer Halifax, Glyn Naylor, Linda and Marcus for taking on the Wainhouse Tower Abseil in support of Sight Support Calderdale.

Abseiling 275 feet down Wainhouse Tower is no small challenge, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who signed up, stepped over the edge and helped make the day such a success.
