I sat down today to restart my yoga nidra teacher training after accidentally abandoning it for a while because… ADHD + peri 😆

20 minutes into the training I thought,
“I’ll just do a quick yoga ........I woke up an hour later 🤣

But honestly? This is exactly why yoga nidra has become essential for me.

As someone navigating ADHD, chronic stress, nervous system overwhelm, hormones, business building and being a human in 2026… yoga nidra has genuinely become one of my most important regulation tools.

When I was doing it consistently, I practised 2–3 times a day.
Now if I go more than a day without it, I REALLY feel the difference.

The brain fog gets louder.
The overwhelm gets heavier.
Everything starts feeling like it’s happening at me instead of flowing through me.

Yoga nidra helps me:
✨ regulate my nervous system
✨ calm the constant mental tabs open in my brain
✨ reduce emotional overwhelm
✨ improve sleep and energy
✨ soften anxiety and stress responses
✨ reconnect with my body safely
✨ rest without guilt (still learning this one 😅)

And for neurodivergent women, especially those navigating ADHD, burnout, perimenopause, chronic stress or exhaustion… that kind of deep rest and regulation matters more than most people realise.

Rest isn’t lazy.
Sometimes it’s the most productive thing your nervous system can receive.

Why does no one talk about rest actually being productive?
Some days the world feels too loud for my nervous system.

Today I made the mistake of reading the news and could physically feel the impact in my body afterwards. The overwhelm, the heaviness, the exhaustion… like my whole system just shut down.

Which is frustrating because I had fully intended on getting s**z done today. But I’m already in an RA flare and my nervous system clearly decided it had reached capacity.

When you’re already navigating ADHD, chronic illness, hormones, burnout or years of survival mode, constant exposure to fear, anger and distress can hit hard. And honestly? Learning to protect your energy and nervous system is not selfish it's necessary!!

One thing I needed to remember as a coach today was: 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩. So today I took my own advice from my Wired & Tired™ workbook (the part about regulation, rest and stopping before your body forces you to.)

Because rest is priority, not luxury.
You cannot keep pouring from an empty cup and expect your nervous system not to eventually protest.

So my schedule changed this afternoon. Instead of forcing productivity, I headed under my weighted blanket and into a yoga nidra.

And honestly? That probably made me more productive in the long run.

Seriously!?
Its not enough that to get an ADHD assessment during a midlife crisis is stupidly difficult.
Then diagnosis hits and whilst it helps you understand why the f**k your life is what it is helps, doesn't stop you going through some weird grieving process.
Ok so then there's the meds - not for everyone but the thought of a medication that can stop the constant head noise as well as helping to get s**z done? Sign me up Brother....but wait!
No one tells you the crazy crashes that might occur with stimulants. No one tells you that maybe elvanse might not work so well in midlife - cue the crazy extended emotional roller coaster edition!

So after months and months (and trawling my own research) I'm now trying a non stimulant.
I'm not going to assume this will help (like I did with elvanse) but we shall see.

If this helps someone feel less alone in their titration journey then I'm glad.
It's not easy and I'm super pi**ed that there is such a MASSIVE lack of knowledge/research when it comes to ADHD and perimenopause!
Don't struggle alone! You don't have to feel this miserable/desperate but unfortunately it's yet another battle you may have to fight.

YOU know your body, you know what you need and don't let any m**o fob you off!
