We’ve had a name change!

Harrogate NHS Oral Health Team is now Hull City Council Oral Health Team

While our name may be new, it’s still the same friendly team continuing to support supervised toothbrushing programmes, share positive oral health messages across the city, and provide FREE training for professionals working with children and vulnerable adults

We’ll also still be out and about in the community so come and say hello if you see us!

We also recently visited Treetops West and Treetops East Special schools to take part in their "People who help us" topic.

The children had great fun brushing Dipsy's teeth and we read a story all about visiting the dentist and what to expect. Fantastic engagement from the children and staff.

Recently the Oral Health Team attended the "Preparing for Adulthood" SEND event at Princes Quay.

It was a very busy and engaging day, we had over 100 students visit the stand. We gave out advice on Oral Health, hidden sugars in drinks and looking after your teeth as a teenager.

National Smile Month 2026 is well underway!

A healthy smile is a happy smile and this year we’re celebrating 50 years of smiles!

Small daily habits make a big difference:
✔ Brush your teeth twice a day
✔ Use fluoride toothpaste
✔ Spit, don’t rinse
✔ Cut down on sugary foods & drinks
✔ Visit your dentist regularly

A healthy diet + good brushing habits = a happy, healthy smile

Recently we had the pleasure of visiting Appleton Primary School for their annual oral health visit and what a fantastic job the whole school is doing!

This visit was extra special, as it’s the very same primary school I attended as a child. It was such a lovely surprise to see some of my former teachers, who still remembered me after all these years!

It’s always a privilege to support young children in learning about the importance of good oral health, and we’re so proud to be part of their journey. Keep up the amazing work, Appleton Primary!

Another busy week coming up …. out and about in Hull.

We have a fun and busy week ahead planned where we’ll be carrying out annual audits while supporting children to develop good toothbrushing habits and providing take home packs.

Also our parent and child course will also continue, offering guidance and hands-on support for families during the weaning stage and early years feeding journey.

A busy fun week out and about in Hull where we´ll be talking to the children about looking after their teeth, observing how good they are at brushing their teeth and giving out their take home toothbrushing packs.

Easter is a lovely time to come together as families and focus on care, support, and looking after one another especially our children.

Across Hull and beyond, supervised toothbrushing programmes help children build healthy habits that last a lifetime. Brushing together each day in nurseries and schools not only protects teeth but also supports confidence, wellbeing, and learning.

Because it’s the small daily habits, at home and in settings, that help prevent tooth decay and keep little smiles healthy and strong
