Thinking of getting your childrens ears pierced?
I get so many requests to pierce earlobes and parents ask if i use an ear piercing gun, the answer is NO.
This puts alot of parents off the idea and the idea of using needles can be very daunting for a child.... but while thinking you are doing the best by your child wanting it to be done with a gun you couldnt be more WRONG.
Here are some facts about ear piercing guns:
* An ear piercing gun is made of plastic with an internal mechansim... when sterilising somthing its heated up to 134° and that temprature is held for a period of time to sterilise. If you put an ear piercing gun into an autoclave to sterilise it - what happens? It MELTS, and the internal components stop working. . - ear piercing guns CAN NOT be sterilised. They can be "Cleaned" now there is a massive diffrence between "cleaning" and "sterilising".
* The gun is designed to mechanically ram a stud through the ear... this causes blunt force trauma and does not make a clean wound, this can cause excess tissue damage to the area - meaning potentially more issues with healing.
* The studs that are used in ear piercing guns are normally to short to accomodate the excess swelling a gun causes meaning studs become buried in the ear and have to be removed.
* Ear stud choices include: Surgical steel, silver, 9ct gold, and plated gold. None of these are safe for initial piercing. Nickle content is high in these metals aswell as other things causing reactions.
* Ear piercing guns can have blood or contaminents left on the device when being used on the next person.
