Went out to a client today who l haven’t seen in months , he doesn’t like to book further appointments and just leaves his feet to deteriorate 🥲 yes it’s frustrating!he has a learning disability , and surprisingly has carers three times a day “daily “???? the gentleman in question phoned me himself and said he had been to A&E because his toe nail was that long it had ripped and was very sore 😟and he needed me to come ,what l don’t think is acceptable is that this man who is supposed to have daily support for much of the day , has been allowed to be so uncomfortable 😳 for weeks , l know the carers are not always allowed to cut finger nails , which l do as a free service if attending to feet , but please 🙏 don’t leave your clients with filthy , long , finger nails and in pain with their feet 🦶 support that person by meeting their needs , it is neglect and cruel , if the need is something you can not deal with then seek out someone who can ! it’s called a ( Duty of Care )
How can this be ignored ?
Today l explained to this lovely man that he must make regular appointments to prevent trips to hospital and unnecessary discomfort and together we arranged a regular plan .
I have worked as a Nurse in Learning Disability and found it very rewarding , these people are extremely vulnerable , l have noted on a few occasions in the community that there are definite overlooked needs in this Client group 🥲which l find very sad .
The dressing was still on the toe from weeks back so wasn’t sure what was lurking 👀 underneath but we managed to sort things out , leaving a smiling gentleman 😊
