Poppy is our fabulous Clinical Care Coordinator, keeping the business running smoothly behind the scenes & often the person making an important lasting first impression in response to enquiries for therapy or corporate wellbeing contracting.

Poppy has had staycations & vacations throughout the summer: cousin walks, fun with friends in the Yorkshire Dales, cycling in the Peak District, a family holiday to Rhodes, camping, beach time & camping in Anglesey.

Action packed with opportunities for connectedness (with family & friends), calm (in connection with nature), courage (first time camping!) & confidence (in new adventures).

Poppy has returned to work & is ready & waiting to support you in directing you with how Systemisk Psychology can help with your wellness needs. Reach out: www.systemisk.com

A summer outdoors ☀️. Nina has had an action packed summer of outdoors family fun. Festivals, camping, cycling, horse riding, gorge walking, gatherings with family & friends, & topped off with a week in Puglia, Italy 🇮🇹 swimming in crystal clear seas.

Nina has accessed an abundance of self energy, in connectedness (with family & friends), calm (in taking a slower pace), clarity (in taking time to realign with her values-base), & choice (in greater free-will to spend the days as choose to).

Nina is due back to work next week & whilst she’s had the best summer, work is a vocation for her & so the return is much anticipated! 😊

Lotty is our wonderful marketing lead. This is Lotty visiting the Isle of Wight. The image encapsulates several things that she describes help her access self energy.

Lotty has always felt a strong affinity with the sea, it's a place that simultaneously makes her feel calm, but also reenergised for whatever comes next. Taking the time to appreciate the power and beauty in nature helps her to feel more connected and provides her with a sense of perspective.

The sea evokes a child like awe and reverence in her that she finds comfortingly humbling.

She is also strongly driven by her connection with people, and spending time with family, especially when it's a big group, bringing her a huge sense of joy and belonging.

So time at the seaside with loved ones is really one of her favourite things. Amongst the sandcastles and rock pooling and shouting and laughter, this image captures Lotty & her niece sharing a quieter moment at the seafront, just appreciating the morning together.

Connectedness (with people and nature), curiosity (exploring the beach), & calm (the inner calm the sea provides) at its best.

We previously posted a snapshot of information on the therapeutic approach, Internal Family Systems (IFS), referencing the premise that vitality in life & living comes from accessing & making space for self-led energy.

Over summer, each of our team is taking an extended summer break, at various times, with the intention of making space for more self-led energy.

Here is Aiveen on her recent travels along the West coast of Ireland. 🇮🇪

Accessing self energy in connectedness with her family, curiosity on their adventures visiting new places, calm in being in nature & soaking up the incredible views, & confidence with the kids (& Arlo 🐾) experiencing cycling on new roads.

Such a beautiful part of the world that in visiting, has resourced Aiveen & her family's internal (self) & external (family) system with energy & vitality.

Treasured memories, but also accessed self energy. 💪🏻

Over the coming weeks, different members of our team will be taking extended breaks for the summer. This isn’t just about taking time off—it’s about creating the space to reconnect with Self energy.

In Internal Family Systems (IFS), Self energy is where we access compassion, creativity, curiosity, connectedness, courage, confidence, clarity, calm & choice. It’s from this place that we can show up most authentically for ourselves and for others.

As psychologists, we believe that caring for ourselves is an essential part of caring well for the people we support. Rest isn’t something we fit in around our work—it’s part of the work.

Throughout the summer, we’ll be sharing moments of Self-led living from across the team. You’ll hear how each of us intentionally nurtures Self energy in ways that are meaningful to us—whether that’s time in nature, creative pursuits, slowing down, connecting with loved ones, or simply choosing to pause.

We hope these glimpses inspire you to consider what helps you access your own Self energy.

What helps you reconnect with yourself? We’d love to hear in the comments. 💙

Have you ever followed your sat nav straight into a road closure?

Many of us trust our sat nav most of the time. It uses reliable information, generally gets us where we need to go and often makes life easier.

But occasionally, we turn a corner and discover the road is closed.

At that point we have a choice. We can continue trying to follow the original route because “that’s what the sat nav said”, or we can pause, notice what’s actually happening around us and choose a different route.

In psychology, this is sometimes described as the difference between rule-following (pliance) and tracking.

Rules are incredibly useful. They save us time, reduce uncertainty and often help us make good decisions. The aim isn’t to stop following them.

But psychological flexibility involves noticing when the context has changed and asking:
“Is this rule still effective in helping me get where I want to go?”

The same principle applies in organisations. Policies, routines and “the way we’ve always done things” often serve us well. But when circumstances change, effective teams don’t abandon rules altogether—they notice what’s happening, adapt where needed and keep sight of what they’re trying to achieve.

That’s one of the conversations we often find ourselves having in reflective practice and training sessions.

Where have you noticed yourself—or your team—benefit from pausing to ask whether the “sat nav” still fits the road ahead?

A wonderful transitions workshop with the year 6 pupils of Kettlesing Felliscliffe Primary School. The workshop shared information about the teen brain & involved trying out different ‘mindsight’ practices to help settle & sooth the mind & body at times of worry.

Did you know huge brain changes occur during the adolescent period, with the brain remodelling itself to become 30,000 times more efficient than the child brain. During this process emotions are felt more deeply, thinking happens speedily, & a strong aversion to do the mundane or a dislike becomes ever present. This is as the brain ‘specialises’ itself with pruning & myelin formation. Parents & teens understanding these changes can help maintain compassion through turbulent times as everyone tries to adjust to the updated model of a super speedy, efficient brain!

Thankyou to the wonderful year 6s & their fabulous teacher Mrs Sidley, for their curiosity & engagement.

The NHS 10 Year Health Plan set out an ambitious vision for the future of healthcare.

On the first anniversary of the plan, we still don't know who will deliver it. In our latest article, our Senior Campaigns Advisor Kate Brudenell reflects on why psychology has a vital role to play in supporting the workforce, helping the NHS navigate change, and improving outcomes for patients.
