John walked to Barshaw Park at 100 Years Young, Kingsley Care Home, Glasgow | Care Home Open Week

At 100 years young, John laced up his shoes and walked to Barshaw Park and back πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ

After having to reschedule because of the weather, our residents finally completed their sponsored walk on Monday, and right at the heart of it was John, who turned 100 in December. He didn't just take part. He completed the whole walk to Barshaw Park and back.
And the rest of the day was just as wonderful. A World Cup-themed afternoon tea with residents designing their own football strips, having a go at wordsearches and "guess the country", and taste-testing foods from across the world. There were strong opinions on which dishes were favourites and which absolutely weren't.

On Tuesday, the team sat down for one-to-one chats with residents about the World Cup, who they want to win, who they really don’t, favourite kits and memories from World Cups gone by.
Yesterday morning brought an exercise class to keep everyone fit and strong; the Scotland v Haiti highlights were playing in the lounge.

Our home, Kingsley in Glasgow, is open every day this week as part of Care Home Open Week. We would warmly welcome families considering care for someone they love.

Meet our resident, Drew: A Lifetime in Ruchazie | Care Home Open Week Storytime

🏑Craigend Gardens, Glasgow

Drew picked up his first trowel at seventeen years old. He never really put it down 🧱

A bricklayer by trade and a Ruchazie man through and through, Drew has spent a lifetime in the same corner of Glasgow he was born into. Two brothers, a wife, a daughter, a granddaughter, and more than a few match days at Celtic Park along the way. Holidays in Salou, Spain and Portugal too, when work allowed.

πŸ’¬Ask him what he loves about life at Craigend Gardens and the answer comes quickly.
The food. 🍽️
A good game of dominoes. 🎲
And a chair in the sun in the garden, where the day can stretch out as long as it likes β˜€οΈ

This Care Home Open Week, come and meet Drew and the rest of our wonderful residents.

Eugene Remembers 1998 at Craigend Gardens, Glasgow | Care Home Open Week Storytime

The last time Scotland made it to a World Cup ⚽

Eugene remembers exactly where he was. At home in Easterhouse, Scotland jersey on, tartan scarf around his neck, watching every match with his two sons beside him on the sofa.

Eugene worked on the Glasgow Subway for over 40 years, grew up in the Gorbals as one of fourteen siblings, and held a season ticket at Celtic Park for as long as he can remember. Today, he is one of the wonderful people who calls Craigend Gardens home, alongside Drew, John, Grace and many more.

This Care Home Open Week, you are warmly invited to step inside and meet them. Hear their stories, share a cup of tea, and see what life here is really like πŸ’›

A truly royal welcome at The Glen, Morecambe | Care Home Open Week

The team at The Glen kicked off their celebrations by welcoming the new Mayor of Lancaster, Councillor Colin Hartley, and the Mayoress into the home. The visit held a special meaning, as the Mayoress's own mother-in-law was cared for at The Glen five years ago, and she spoke warmly about the team who looked after her.

The Mayor and Mayoress enjoyed a full tour of the home's nursing care and dementia care communities, stopping along the way to chat with residents, families and staff. The highlight of the afternoon came when two residents, Sheila and Mary, sat down with their special guests for afternoon tea, laughing and reminiscing about growing up, schooling and life in Morecambe and Lancaster. πŸ«–

No celebration would be complete without a feast, and the catering team at The Glen put on a wonderful homemade spread, from classic quiches and sausage rolls to fresh scones with strawberries and cream. πŸ“

Spirits were high and Scottish pride was on full display at Craigend Gardens in Glasgow | Care Home Open Week

The team launched Care Home Open Week with a high-energy Day 1 of baking, bonding and plenty of Scottish spirit.

Residents began the morning with a hands-on baking masterclass, whipping up a batch of traditional Empire Biscuits that looked wonderful and tasted even better.

To round off a brilliant first day, residents took to the microphone for a proper care home karaoke session, from classic Scottish tunes to upbeat party anthems. A lovely reminder of how music, food and good company bring so much joy to everyday life. 🎀

There is plenty more fun lined up for the rest of the week.

Where Were You in 1966? Stories from Haslingden Hall, Rossendale

Where were you in 1966? πŸ’
This week, Haslingden Hall Care Home - Amicura in Rossendale is bringing Care Home Open Week to life with their 1966 Campaign celebrations, and Monday was all about flags, memories and a story that warmed every heart in the home.

Our residents created their very own flags to represent who they are and took a trip back through the decades together.

1966 was a famous year. England lifted the World Cup, and for our wonderful resident Shirley, it was the year her own story began. She was just 20, working as a cashier in a local shop, when she met Victor, the love of her life. πŸ’›

Moments like these are exactly why opening our doors matters. Every resident has a lifetime of memories worth celebrating, and we feel so lucky to share them.

There is plenty more to come this week. Discover more about life at Haslingden Hall

✈️ Around the World at Jasmine Court, Chorley | Care Home Open Week

Jasmine Court in Chorley kicked off Care Home Open Week with day one of our Through The Decades and Around The World celebrations, and today we travelled the globe without ever leaving the home.

Our residents spent the day sharing wonderful memories of holidays, favourite destinations and family trips from every corner of the world. The home was transformed with travel-themed decorations, destination displays, and our very own passports and boarding passes, creating a real sense of adventure for everyone.

A special activity highlight was the launch of the 'Around the World Mileage' challenge; residents will be clocking up the miles as the week goes on.

This is what person-centred care looks like. Conversation, connection and celebrating the rich lives our residents have lived.
A whole week of adventures lies ahead.

Wishes Fulfilled, New Memories Made & A 100th Birthday to Remember πŸ’œ

This week across our Amicura care homes, we've been celebrating the moments that make life meaningful, reconnecting with cherished places, spending time with friends, enjoying community activities and marking an incredible 100th birthday.

At Carnbroe Care Centre in Coatbridge, one of our favourite moments was helping Jane return to St James Church for the first time in four years. A place that had played such an important role in her life, it was made even more special by sharing tea, cake and treasured memories with old friends.

At Kingsley in Glasgow, residents have been making the most of the summer sunshine, enjoying fresh fruit, music, laughter and special visits from local nursery children.

Residents at Liberton Brae in Edinburgh enjoyed a trip to Dobbies Garden Centre, taking in the beautiful displays and relaxing together over a cuppa.

At River Brook in Stirchley, celebrations were in full swing as Marcia marked an incredible 100th birthday surrounded by family, friends and the team who care for her every day.

These moments may seem simple, but they are at the heart of person-centred care, supporting residents to stay connected to the people, places and experiences that bring them joy.
