This World Alzheimer's Month, we're celebrating the power of purpose in everyday moments.

At Craigend Gardens, our residents have become our very own Household Heroes, teaming up with staff to fold socks, sort tea towels and tackle household tasks together.

What may seem like a simple job to many can be incredibly meaningful for someone living with dementia. Familiar activities can awaken long-held memories, support routine and independence, and provide a wonderful sense of achievement as muscle memory gently takes over.

More importantly, these moments create opportunities for conversation, connection and teamwork, reminding us that everyone has valuable skills to contribute.

Meet our Much Loved Resident - Shirley❤️

Today, we are delighted to share a glimpse into Shirley’s life story

Growing up alongside her siblings, family has always been central to Shirley’s life, and she still loves receiving regular visits from her sister, Freda.

Since joining the Haslingden Hall family, Shirley has become a much-loved resident, well known for her glamorous red nails, active participation in home events, and love of a good chat! ❤️

🌱💙 Growing Memories at Carnbroe Care Centre 💙🌱

Residents at Carnbroe Care Centre, Coatbridge got their green fingers busy by planting Forget-Me-Not seeds, the vibrant symbol of Alzheimer’s awareness.

As each seed was planted, residents shared cherished memories and reflected on the importance of dementia awareness, creating a gentle reminder that every memory and every person matters.

💜 World Alzheimer's Month: Thelma's Story 💜

This World Alzheimer's Month, we're proud to share Thelma's story, told by her son.

A lady of many talents, she embraced a wide variety of careers over the years, bringing passion to everything she did. Fiercely competitive, full of character, and the heart of her family, she has always been a much-loved matriarch whose strength and spirit continue to shine through.

Listening to her son's reflections reminds us why understanding the person behind the diagnosis is so important. The memories, achievements, relationships and personality that make someone who they are never stop mattering.

Thank you to Thelma and her family for allowing us to share this special story and help raise awareness during World Alzheimer's Month.

☕ Hug in a Mug: Sharing Memories, Music and Meaningful Moments

Our residents are enjoying Hug in a Mug sessions at Haslingden Hall in Rossendale, a monthly visit from Trisha from the local church that brings everyone together through singing, reminiscence, conversation and optional prayer.

Each session has a different theme, and this time it explored India 🇮🇳. In the days leading up to the session, residents were supported through one-to-one conversations to remember stories, experiences and memories connected to the theme, which they could then share with the group.

The session finished in the best way with a warm cuppa, a relaxed chat and time for residents to share their thoughts, stories and comments. ❤️

Activities like Hug in a Mug are about much more than filling the day. They encourage reminiscence, social interaction, emotional wellbeing and meaningful connections, while allowing every resident to participate in a way that feels comfortable to them.

Charlotte Fabian, 104, from Liberton Brae Care Home - Amicura in Edinburgh, joined nine-year-old Isla and seven-year-old Ewan from Tollcross Primary School as some of the first members of the public welcomed back into the newly redeveloped King’s Theatre Edinburgh.

For Charlotte, a lifelong visitor to the Kings Theatre, returning to such a familiar and much-loved Edinburgh landmark made the occasion even more meaningful.

We were also delighted to see Charlotte’s story featured by BBC News in its coverage of the reopening of the King’s Theatre following its refurbishment.

A wonderful example of how memories, community connections and shared experiences can continue across generations.

👏 Congratulations to Capital Theatres - Festival Theatre, Studio & King's Theatre on this exciting new chapter for one of Edinburgh’s most treasured venues.
