What actually is AnandaDance? What does Ananda mean?
Two questions we get asked a lot, but it can be quite difficult to put into words because AnandaDance is something you really have to feel & experience for yourself. I have tried my best to explain in this reel.
We absolutely do learn choreography, we dance through a routine we have created & sometimes we completely forget what weâre doing and laugh our way through it đ (a lot).
However underneath all of that, there is something much deeper & extremely powerful.
AnandaDance was created from our combined love of movement, Rachels knowledge of yoga philosophy, Anjis vast dance experience, and the unwavering belief we share that dance doesnât have to be about performing or getting everything right. It can be about coming home to yourself. A form of meditation, a way to entirely shift your mood.
Ananda itself means bliss, and inspired by the journey through the Koshas, AnandaDance invites us to move through those layers of ourselves. The body, the breath, the mind, our intuition & wisdom, and eventually towards that deeper sense of joy and freedom within us all.
There is structure, but there is also room for freedom. There is choreography, but there is definitely no expectations of perfection. There is challenge and growth, but there is so much laughter too. (Usually at us).
You donât need to be a dancer.
You donât need to be flexible.
You donât need to have rhythm or remember every step.
You just need to be willing to move, to learn, to play again, to let go a little and see how good it feels to get out of your head and back into your body.
Move â Feel â Awaken
Thatâs AnandaDance â¤ď¸
