So many studio owners out there are running their studios and working on growing their business on their own, whilst and teaching long hours. Protecting your space and energy is not just important, it is crucial.
These are just some of the things that I have built into my every day life so that I can protect myself from burnout, maintain relationships, and have a little bit of a life.
1. Strong & Clear Boundaries in all areas of my life
Boundaries are important to protect your energy, support healthy relationships, and make space for you to show up fully.
This for me includes setting teaching hours that do not exhaust or drain me and that allow me to also dedicate time to running the business.
Protecting my downtime is also important, specifically my morning walks and having no screens in the evening
2. Prioritising my own practice
I schedule in my workouts like I do my Clients and meetings. My workouts help me deepen my practice, understand the classical system, and become a better teacher.
3. Prioritising a healthy nutritious diet, hydration, and sleep
The demands of teaching and running the studio make nourishment, hydration, and rest non-negotiable.
4. Having a life outside of the studio
Wearing “home” clothes, slowing down with family and friends, and staying connected to the people I love reminds me that life exists beyond the studio. Those connections are what keep me grounded, energised, and able to give fully when I teach and work on the business.
5. Guarding my wind down time in the evening.
Quiet moments on the sofa, incense burning, a good book in hand, creating space to slow my nervous system down after holding space for others all day. These small rituals help me protect my energy, reconnect to myself, and transition out of “studio mode” so I can rest and reset properly.
Let me know if you find this helpful and share any strategies and tools that you use.
