XMTR x Samphire: The Sound Sauna, part of the .fm Festival, is now open for booking.

Enjoy a one hour communal sauna while listening to a bespoke sound installation exploring the joy and ritual of sauna culture. Created by Hayley Clarke , an audio producer with nearly two decades at the BBC and British Council, as part of XMTR Audio Arts Festival and hosted by us, featuring excerpts from our guests and other saunas.

XMTR Audio Arts Festival is a deep dive into the craft of creative audio and sonic storytelling: powerful and provocative performances, focused listening and immersive experiences, plus knowledge sharing through talks and masterclasses.

What'a a Sauna Hat, and why should I wear one?

It's not just for looks (although we think they look pretty great!). Felt is a brilliant insulator, so a sauna hat keeps the direct heat off your head. Protecting your hair and scalp against dryness and heat. But most importantly, wearing a Sauna Hat allows you to stay in for longer, more comfortably.

It's especially handy in a proper wood-fired heat like ours, which gets very hot. It's a tradition borrowed from Finland and the Baltic states, where sauna is a way of life, and a sauna hat is as much a part of the kit as a bucket and ladle.

You'll usually spot the more seasoned sauna-goers wearing one, so don't be shy. Ask us about borrowing one next time you're with us; we've got a few spares.

TOP TIP: Dunk your hat in water before popping it on to help keep an even cooler head.

You asked, we delivered 🚿

You all told us how much you loved our new rain shower, so we’ve upgraded the other two cold showers with brand new rain shower heads too! That means three full rain showers, plus the bucket shower, the plunge pool, and the sea just beyond the pier, all ready and waiting whenever you need to cool down.

However you like to come down from the heat, we’ve got you covered.

Well, this is a nice bit of alignment. 🌘🌞

This Wednesday's partial solar eclipse peaks in Hastings at 91%, right around 19:14, just as our last sauna session of the day is wrapping up. The sun dips low toward the horizon (face WNW if you're watching), and for a few minutes, it'll feel like dusk arrived early.

Book in for our 1hr communal sauna at 6.30pm this Wednesday, and you should just catch the eclipse from our deck.

Starts 18:18, peaks 19:14, done by 20:07. Don't look directly at it without proper eclipse glasses, obviously, but stand by for the sky doing something a bit magical while you sauna! ✨
