Wasn’t expecting any more of these on the pond this year 😍

This is an old cattle trough that was was here when we moved in, so we turned it into a pond.

Because of its size I did some research and got dwarf waterlilly’s so that they don’t take it over. They’re such a beautiful sight.

I love how much wildlife comes to the pond, I even get foxes at night - certainly didn’t expect that with a concrete garden. Can you spot the wildlife in this photo! 🪰

It was a wonderful surprise to see four beautiful sunflowers pop up in the garden - they must have grown from seeds from the bird feeder.

They only opened today, but already the bees have found them and spent most of the day visiting. 😍🥰🌻🐝

So of course I had to get a snap for today’s photo - according to my wildlife book it’s a Bombus pascuorum.

Today’s sh*t photo was appropriately on a pile of horse sh*t 😂

I was trying to crop out the piece of plastic, but then I decided to keep it in - portraying two worlds intersecting.

I was in a wild flower meadow playing with butterfly’s when someone told me about this big group of them. It was magical to watch when they all took flight together and danced around before landing back in the same spot. 😍

Had a go at trying to capture the movement of the butterfly for day 3. I’m not loving the result, but I’m definitely excited to play with this more.

Looking forward to making some more sh*t art tomorrow and seeing what happens 📷🙌🦋

There isn’t much wildlife in the garden today, so I decided that for day two of ‘just making something’ I’d have a go at a butterfly in flight.

I’m not blaming my tools, but my camera definitely makes wildlife photography more challenging. By the time it’s focussed, the butterfly is in Barbados with a pina colada! It still blows my mind that butterfly’s can fly here from far flung countries (I don’t know if Barbados is one of them).

I have until now generally only photographed stationary butterflies, as my camera can *just* about manage those! But in the spirit of not worrying about making sh*t art, I had a go at a flying one today.

Something else I’ve been playing with for the last few months is capturing wildlife in its habitat. A lot of the most stunning wildlife photography has a plain background to allow the creature to really shine, but to me that’s not telling the whole story. Wildlife rarely hangs out in the open - whether it’s because it’s hiding from its prey or hiding from the hunter. So I set out to capture a butterfly flying in amongst the flowers.

The grasses made it difficult to get the ‘Large White’ butterfly in focus, but I love the lines that they add to the picture. I also adore the pops of that beautiful pink as the sedum starts to emerge. Pink and green - my two favourite colours.

It bodes well for me that I’m only supposed to take one photo a day - my memory card has been full for around 6 months (one of the reasons I haven’t been taking many photos recently).

It’s only recently that I’ve realised just how much the condition that I have can make me feel easily overwhelmed. Even sorting my memory card feels like too much at the moment.

I’ve started to practice kindness towards myself, rather than frustration. The consultant described my condition as if my brain was a bucket - it’s always pretty much full, so it’s very easy to overflow. I have a lot going on at the moment, so I feel like my bucket is actually always overflowing these days - it’s no wonder I can’t add anything else.

I’m looking forward to seeing what day 3 has in store, as I’m loving todays outcome 😍

I’m reading a fantastic book called We Need Your Art, Stop F*cking Around and Make Something by - so I made something!

It’s been sooo long since I picked up my camera, which is crazy as it’s one of my favourite ways to spend my time. I was supposed to take just one photo today, but I already broke the rules and took 3.

I was hoping to get a photo of a swallow flying past the only sunflower in the wildflower meadow, with those amazing sun rays in the background.

Zig wasn’t up for hanging around waiting for a swallow to zoom past the sunflower. So, what I actually got was the sunflower, a photo of Zig refusing to walk any further because he didn’t want to go that way, and what I guess is my actual photo of the day…some out of focus clouds - my attempt at a swallow, but it was just too damn fast! Amie also says it’s ok to make sh*t art - so I wanted to share today’s sh*t art with you.

Something I don’t ever talk about on here, but feel like I want to share more of is that I have a long term chronic health condition. Today is the first day this week I’ve been well enough to walk anywhere…even if it was just to the end of my road. Just a reminder that not all disabilities are visible.

I’m in the process of working out how I want to share my (hopefully a bit less sh*t) art - as I’ve deleted socials from my phone and it feels SO good, but how do you reach people without it! Now that is the question.

I’ll be back tomorrow with day 2 of making something 🙌

I absolutely love it when products aren’t just a product.

I got these stunning flowers at . They’re grown using nature friendly methods at - a charity which supports people with autism and learning disabilities into paid jobs. Not only did growing them help provide the trainees with vital skills, but the money that I paid for them goes straight back to the charity.

It got me thinking about other products that I use that are making a positive impact.

I use soap by which is made by people experiencing homelessness, providing living wage work and training for them. It’s also vegan.

I eat rice by that contributes to wildlife protection, preserves forests and it’s organic.

I bought some tea from as a gift. They provide employment to refugees, while also being organic and plastic free.

The vegetables that I cook with are from are grown to permaculture principles, in harmony with nature rather than against it. Benefitting both the soil and wildlife, as well as my body.

Not only are they all great quality products, but I enjoy using them more knowing that my money is helping to fund something positive. ♥️

I’d love to hear of any products that you use that also have a greater impact. Tag them below 👇

E A T I N G S E A S O N A L L Y

Up until my late 20’s eating was just something I had to do to stay alive, if I’m honest I really begrudged having to spend time eating. I’d eat the same meals every day, just to make it less effort. My mum even did a secret experiment when I was a teenager, and it turned out if she didn’t cut up my food I wouldn’t eat it! 🙈

I think the turning point was probably when I started eating predominantly plant based food back in 2019. Seeing as I was used to cooking just a handful of recipes I had absolutely no idea what to cook, so I tried recipe boxes and for the first time I was enjoying eating and cooking.

Often when I tell people I eat plant based food they think it must be really restrictive (I used to too), but actually it couldn’t be further from the truth. My mealtimes are definitely more interesting now.

Recently, I’ve been experimenting with trying to eat seasonally. It’s embarrassing to admit that thanks to being able to get whatever I want, whenever I want I’m a supermarket - I’m still learning what’s actually in season.

I get a veg box delivered to my door, which has been grown just down the road using permaculture principles (growing in harmony with nature, rather than against it) by the wonderful . They’ve had some students there doing research and initial findings indicate that their veg has way more nutrients than supermarket veg. 🙌

I love the surprise of finding out what ingredients I’ve got to cook with that week. The last box had coriander seeds. I had them tonight for the first time and I think they’re my new favourite ingredient! Shame I’ve tried twice this year to grow coriander and failed. 😂

The boxes get me experimenting with ingredients that I definitely wouldn’t have bought otherwise. Health is super important to me, so it makes it even better that widening the variety of food that I eat is great for my gut health too.

Anyone else got no idea what grows when?! 😅

G R A T I T U D E

My journal asked me to find 5 things that made me smile today. To be honest there were at least 50 things that made me smile while I was at my favourite nature reserve this morning - but it said to choose different things, so I’m counting nature as just one.

1. Has to be seeing the rare convolvulus hawk moth having their breakfast from some flowers first thing in the morning. What an absolute stunner! Unfortunately the nature reserve couldn’t count it as a sighting as I was too busy watching in wonder to get a photo.

2. The tiniest flower ever growing from the concrete. A gentle reminder that beauty can be found even in the most unexpected places, you just have make sure you slow down so don’t miss it 😍

3. Zigs secondhand buggy and umbrella. He wasn’t well enough to walk today, but it meant we both got to enjoy a 6 mile walk surrounded by wildlife.

4. Came home to find my first ever tomato growing in the garden, I think you’ll agree it’s an absolute beauty. Plus a bonus accidental potato harvest from the compost bin.

5. Stopping to smell the verbena that self seeded in a crack in my concrete garden. It smells divine, and I love how much nature is taking over. I often forget my garden is concrete!

Ok so they’re pretty much all nature related, I just can’t help myself. I mean honestly - how has a tiny seed turned into that big tomato! Blows my mind.

I’d love to hear what made you smile today? ☀️

Had the most amazing time yesterday learning how to forage.

When we arrived we were asked if we’ve foraged anything before. I thought blackberries and wild garlic were the extent of my experience.

We started to walk around and I soon remembered that I foraged for our Guinea pigs when we had them.

They used to enjoy eating cleavers aka the sticky weeds that you used to sneakily attach to people clothes when you were little…I never thought I’d be able to eat them too!

Had a go at making some cleavers water today, apparently it has to be left overnight. Hopefully I’ll be able to wait that long - I’m too excited to sample my first foraging experiment!
