There was plenty of colour, music and laughter at Eltisley Manor recently as residents and staff came together for a fantastic 1980s-themed BBQ.

With bright neon outfits, classic 80s tunes and glorious sunshine throughout the day, the event was a huge success from start to finish. Residents enjoyed getting involved, dancing along to the music and making the most of the warm weather with friends and staff.

A special mention goes to our very own Molly, who once again provided the entertainment and had everyone singing and dancing along.

Of course, no BBQ would be complete without great food, and the team certainly delivered, serving up a delicious spread that was enjoyed by all.

Days like these are a wonderful opportunity to bring people together, create lasting memories and promote wellbeing through fun, social activities in a supportive environment.

Not even rain could stop play for service users from Saddlers Farm Day Centre during one of their much-anticipated annual fishing trips to Browns Lake in Addington, Northamptonshire.

Joined by staff and members of the Freemasons, everyone wrapped up with umbrellas and ponchos and headed out for a day of fishing, friendship and fun. Despite the wet weather, spirits remained high throughout the day, with plenty of smiles, laughter and some very impressive catches along the way.

Days like these are about so much more than the activity itself. They provide opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, build confidence, develop social connections and create lasting memories with friends and supporters.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success – especially our friends from the Freemasons for their continued support.

Recently, a resident at Winnett Cottage asked a member of staff to write down a message on their behalf. In it, they shared how much they value the support they receive, explaining that they feel understood, listened to and supported by the team around them.

They spoke positively about the professionalism and kindness of staff and shared their appreciation for the home's manager, describing them as the best manager they have ever known.

The resident also highlighted the positive impact of appointeeship support, which has helped them manage their finances more effectively and enabled them to afford things they previously could not. Having greater control and confidence around finances has contributed to increased independence and improved quality of life.

Feedback like this reminds us that good care is about more than meeting needs. It's about building trust, promoting independence, supporting personal goals and helping people feel valued, respected and understood.

A huge thank you to the team at Winnett Cottage for the positive difference you continue to make every day.

What is a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and when might someone need this level of support?

PICU services provide short-term, highly specialised inpatient care for people experiencing acute phases of severe mental illness, where risks to themselves or others cannot be safely managed in a standard mental health setting.

In our latest blog article, we explore:
• What a PICU is
• How PICU differs from acute mental health wards
• Who may require PICU support
• What treatment and support typically looks like
• The role PICU plays in stabilisation, safety and recovery

Nouvita’s female PICU service at Baldock Manor Hospital provides rapid access to specialist inpatient care within a structured, therapeutic environment, supporting NHS partners across Hertfordshire, London and the South East. Our service is also accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ QNPICU network - a significant quality benchmark for psychiatric intensive care services, and is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC.

Seeking support is not a weakness, and no one should feel they have to cope alone.

June is PTSD Awareness Month; a time dedicated to raising awareness, encouraging understanding, and helping more people access the support they may need following trauma. UK highlights that awareness can help “get people talking where they maybe otherwise wouldn’t” and remind those affected that support and recovery are possible.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD can affect anyone following traumatic experiences, and many people continue to struggle in silence, unsure where to turn or whether help is available.

Nouvita’s Talking Therapy services support people experiencing a range of mental health challenges, including PTSD, anxiety, depression and emotional distress linked to traumatic life experiences, with two routes available to get the support you need:

• NHS Talking Therapies services, in partnership with the NHS and Hertfordshire County Council, for eligible patients across Hertfordshire
• Private Talking Therapy and EMDR services with online and telephone sessions available for everyone across the UK

This month, we encourage open conversations around trauma, mental health and recovery; because seeking support is not a weakness, and no one should feel they have to cope alone.
