πŸ’™ Today, our Learning Disability and Autism Champion, James, is taking part in the Post-16 Inclusion Pathway engagement day at New County Hall in Truro.

James has been sharing his lived experience of Post-16 education and support to help shape an action plan for the future. His insights, alongside those of other young people, families and professionals, will help ensure that future opportunities better reflect the needs and aspirations of young people with SEND.

These collaborative events are part of the next stage of developing an Inclusion Pathway that supports young people with SEND to live full, meaningful lives in their communities, with access to the education, support and opportunities they need to thrive.

A huge thank you to James for representing the voices of young people with learning disabilities and autism and helping to influence positive change. πŸ‘

πŸ“… The next engagement session takes place on Friday 26 June, 10am - 1pm
πŸ“ St Erme Community Centre, Trispen, TR4 9BD

Support Needed for Cornwall Powerchair Football Club

Cornwall PFC has been asked to leave its training venue following concerns raised by insurers regarding the charging of powerchair batteries.

While health and safety, risk management and insurance requirements are important, finding solutions that enable disabled people to continue participating in sport is also important.

Powerchair football is one of the very few competitive team sports available to people with severe physical impairments. The specialist equipment required is expensive, difficult to transport and essential for players to take part.

When access to a venue is lost, the impact goes far beyond finding a new storage space.

The club is now urgently looking for a new venue in Cornwall and would love to hear from any schools, leisure centres, community facilities or organisations that may be able to help.

πŸ’™ Let's work together to ensure disabled people can continue to access sports and activities.

πŸ“§ If you can help, please contact [email protected]

Thank you to Adam McEvoy, Head Coach of the England Powerchair Football Team, for sharing his thoughts and highlighting the wider impact decisions like this can have on disabled athletes and inclusive sport. Cornwall PFC is grateful for his support and for helping to raise awareness of the challenges facing our club and players.

If anyone in Cornwall can help identify a new venue, please contact Annette Lee at [email protected] or Amy Lee-Julian [email protected]. Thank you.

A brilliant example of the personalised and compassionate support our Humans Cornwall team provides πŸ’™

At times of significant change and loss, having the right support can make a meaningful difference. ✨

The Power of Compassionate Support 🌟

Following the loss of our client's spouse, we provided them with both practical and emotional support.

Prior to the funeral, the client disclosed they had nobody to accompany them and was upset that they had been unable to arrange a haircut. We found a hairdresser the same day who was able to support our client in preparation for the funeral.

On the day of the funeral, staff accompanied the client, supported them throughout the service, and later took them home for tea, cake and an opportunity to talk about their spouse and reminisce.

Longer-term support was then arranged to promote stability and independence, including Meals on Wheels, reinstatement of weekly PA domestic support, a dementia clock, and a long-term four-times-daily package of care.

This case demonstrates the value of person-centred, holistic support. By responding to both practical and emotional needs, coordinated intervention helped the client maintain their dignity, wellbeing, and independence during a time of significant change and loss. πŸ’™
