Group B Strep Support is proud to support Sands Awareness Week, led by Sands - baby loss charity ❤

Sands provides vital support to families affected by the loss of a baby, including those whose babies have sadly died due to group B strep infection. Please share the post below and learn how to get involved in Sands Awareness Week by going to https://www.sands.org.uk/sands-awareness-week

Do you know the true scale of baby loss? Every day in the UK, 13 babies die shortly before, during or soon after birth. That’s more than 4,000 babies a year that bereaved parents and families didn’t get to bring home.

We know that the true scale of baby loss is much bigger than this because there are many more families affected by other types of pregnancy and baby loss and TFMR (Termination for Medical Reasons) for which there is no comprehensive publicly available data across the UK.

Sadly, many families don’t know where to turn to for support when they experience a pregnancy or baby loss and this is why it is so important to raise awareness.

We are Sands, the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity, and we are working to save babies’ lives and ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the care and support they need.

The strength of our information depends on the people behind it, which is why we’re so pleased to welcome Dr Geeta Kumar OBE to our Clinical Advisory Panel ✨

Our panel helps make sure what we share with families and professionals is accurate, balanced and grounded in real clinical practice.

Dr Kumar brings a huge amount of experience from across maternity care, including her recent role as Vice President for Clinical Quality at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists RCOG. She also has a longstanding interest in group B Strep and a very practical approach to prevention.

We’re also delighted to celebrate her recent appointment as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours, recognising her services to women’s health.

Janice chose to leave a gift in her Will to GBSS after her son developed a group B Strep at six weeks old. Wanting to make sure others had the right information and support, she found leaving a gift was much easier than she expected.

After taking care of your loved ones, a gift in your Will, large or small , can help us continue our vital work to support families and help protect future babies.
