From Awareness to Action: The Missing Step in Mental Wellbeing

Many of us are aware of what affects our mental health. We know that stress, poor sleep, overwhelm, unhealthy habits, and constant pressure can leave us feeling drained.

Awareness is important—but awareness alone doesn't create change.

Real transformation begins when we take action.

That action doesn't have to be dramatic. In fact, the most powerful changes are often the smallest:

✨ Taking 10 minutes to step outside and breathe fresh air.

✨ Setting a boundary without feeling guilty.

✨ Turning off your phone an hour before bed.

✨ Asking for support instead of struggling alone.

✨ Taking the first step towards addressing a habit that no longer serves you.

As a hypnotherapist, I often meet people who know exactly what's contributing to their stress, anxiety, emotional eating, drinking habits, or lack of confidence. The challenge isn't knowing—it's finding a way to make lasting change.

The gap between awareness and action is where many people become stuck.

The good news? You don't have to change everything at once. One small action taken consistently is far more effective than waiting for the perfect moment to make a big change.

Today, ask yourself:

"What's one small action I can take today that my future self will thank me for?"

Then do it.

Small steps lead to significant change.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder to prioritise YOU.

If something feels “off” — your mood, habits, sleep, or stress levels — listen to that.

You don’t need to wait until things get worse.

Small changes now can create powerful transformations later.

If you’re curious about how hypnotherapy can help, get in touch - I’d be delighted to have a chat 💚

Struggling to sleep?

Your mental health and sleep are closely linked — and anxiety often shows up most at night.

Racing thoughts. Restlessness. Waking at 3am.

Hypnotherapy helps calm the nervous system and retrain your mind for deep, restorative sleep.

Better sleep = better mental health.

Many people imagine co***ne addiction looks obvious — chaotic lifestyles, visible problems, lives falling apart. But the reality is often very different.

Over the years, I’ve spoken to people who are professionals, parents, business owners, people with careers and responsibilities, people you would never suspect were struggling.

Quite often, co***ne use began socially in their 20s — nights out, confidence, fitting in, escaping stress — and somehow, years later, it’s become something they feel trapped by.

What makes this particular addiction so difficult is the secrecy surrounding it.

Many people feel enormous shame about admitting they have a problem.

Talking to a GP can feel embarrassing.

Rehab may feel financially impossible, and taking weeks away from work or family life simply isn’t realistic for many people.

So they continue quietly.

Financially, it becomes a burden. Emotionally, it becomes exhausting.

Many clients describe living a double life — functioning on the outside while privately feeling anxious, stuck, and frustrated with themselves.

The important thing to understand is this: addiction is not weakness, and you do not have to reach “rock bottom” before seeking help.

Hypnotherapy offers a confidential, non-judgmental space to understand and break the habit.

Rather than focusing on blame or shame, we work with the subconscious patterns driving the behaviour — the triggers, emotional associations, routines, stress responses and beliefs that keep the cycle going.

Many clients are not looking to become a different person.

They simply want freedom again.

Freedom from cravings, secrecy, financial pressure and the constant mental negotiation around stopping.

Change is possible, and asking for help is often the first step towards taking your life back.

One thing I’m seeing more and more in clinic lately is what I call the “yo-yo jab cycle.”

A client came to see me recently after spending the last two years moving between strict dieting, weight-loss injections, regaining the weight, then feeling pressured to start all over again.

She said something that really stayed with me:

“I feel like my body doesn’t trust me anymore.”

And honestly, I think many people can relate to that.

The growing conversation around weight-loss medications is often focused on the dramatic short-term results. But we are now seeing increasing evidence that for many people, once the medication stops, the body fights hard to regain the lost weight — and sometimes more rapidly than with traditional dieting alone.

Recent research looking at GLP-1 medications found that a large proportion of weight lost during treatment returns after stopping the drug, with much of the regain happening within the first year. Some studies also suggest the body’s appetite signals, metabolism and cravings rebound strongly after cessation.

This isn’t about blame, and it certainly isn’t about shaming anyone who chooses medication support.

But I do think we need a more honest conversation as a society.

Because if weight loss is achieved without addressing the emotional drivers of eating, stress responses, self-worth, habits, nervous system regulation and the unconscious relationship we have with food… the body often experiences the process as another form of restriction and survival.

And survival biology is powerful.

What I see time and time again is that sustainable change happens when people stop battling themselves.

When they begin working with their mind and body rather than against it.

The goal shouldn’t just be rapid weight loss.It should be creating a relationship with food, health and self that the body feels safe enough to maintain long term.

That’s a very different journey from another cycle of lose, regain, repeat.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, here’s something important:

Your mind is not working against you — it’s trying to protect you.

But sometimes, the patterns it learned (stress eating, drinking, anxiety responses) are outdated.

Hypnotherapy helps update those patterns.

You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve support.

Mental health struggles can look like:

• Overthinking everything
• Feeling “flat” or disconnected
• Being constantly tired
• Losing motivation

These quiet struggles matter too.

Hypnotherapy offers a safe, supportive space to reset your mind and regain clarity.

Mental health isn’t just about how you think — it’s also about your relationship with food.

Emotional eating often comes from:
• Stress
• Anxiety
• Feeling out of control

Your mind is trying to protect you… but the pattern no longer serves you.

Hypnotherapy helps rewire those responses so you can feel calmer, more in control, and free around food.
