The first textbook dedicated entirely to group B Strep is now available.

Group B Strep is a leading cause of severe infection in newborn babies, yet awareness and understanding remain too low.

That's why we're so pleased to see the publication of Group B Streptococcus in Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Neonatal Period; the first textbook focused entirely on group B Strep.

Bringing together the latest evidence, expert clinical knowledge and the experiences of families affected by group B Strep, it is an important new resource for everyone involved in maternity, neonatal and newborn care.

Better understanding leads to better prevention, better care and, ultimately, better outcomes for babies and families.

If you work in maternity, neonatal or newborn care, or know someone who does, we'd be grateful if you could share this post.

Dearest Gentle Reader,
Last week Britain looked to the heavens. Not since someone announced there might be a shortage of toilet rolls has the nation mobilised with quite such determination.
For there was an eclipse.
Suddenly, perfectly sensible adults were standing in gardens, fields and supermarket car parks wearing cardboard spectacles and staring suspiciously at the sky. Nothing says “I am here to witness one of the great celestial events of our time” quite like arriving with the draining apparatus from the kitchen sink.
Across Britain, colanders were raised solemnly towards the heavens.
Pasta had been evicted.
Spaghetti could wait. SCIENCE WAS HAPPENING.
Then came the Cornflake-box brigade. Apparently, with a cereal packet, a little foil and some ingenuity, one could safely observe the eclipse.
Which meant that somewhere this week a child was trying to have breakfast while Granny was shouting:
“DON’T THROW THAT BOX AWAY, SUSAN — I’M TURNING IT INTO AN OBSERVATORY.” There were welding masks.
binoculars, cameras with lenses approximately the size of a small dachshund. The Moon slipped between us and the Sun and reminded several billion human beings that, despite our diaries, deadlines, mortgages, WhatsApp groups and arguments about whose turn it is to empty the dishwasher…
the universe is getting on perfectly well without consulting any of us.
Rather humbling, really.
And wonderfully British.
A celestial phenomenon millions of miles above our heads…
observed through something previously containing Kellogg’s Cornflakes. Yours, astronomically bewildered and still finding pasta in the garden,
Lady Whistling-Bowel™
Watching society very closely… although never directly at the Sun.
