Come and volunteer at Kangaroos… it’ll be fun, they said.

This week is Volunteers’ Week, and we’re taking the opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of our incredible volunteers and trustees.

From weekly clubs and trips to events and special moments, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. They bring energy, kindness and a real sense of fun to Kangaroos, helping create a space where our members can feel confident, supported and part of something special.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing a few glimpses into what volunteering at Kangaroos is really like, the fun, the friendships and everything in between.

Thank you for everything you do.

We’re looking forward to being part of Lindfield Village Day today from 12pm!

Keep an eye out for our members in the procession, who have been busy creating some fantastic Winnie the Pooh-themed costumes and props over the past few weeks, including honey pot lanterns, flags, headwear and more.

We’ll also have a stall in the village and a Family Access Session, so please do come and say hello and find out more about Kangaroos and the work we do supporting people with learning disabilities and additional needs.

We hope to see you there!

A huge thank you to everyone from Burgess Hill Horticultural Society who visited our Breakaway session after raising an incredible £1,394 for Kangaroos through plant and cake sales.

What started during Covid has continued to grow into something really special, and we are so grateful for all the time, effort and kindness that went into it.

A special thank you to Flo, Gerry, Stephen, Adam and Tim for their support. It was lovely to welcome them to the session and show how their fundraising helps bring people together, build friendships and create memorable experiences.

We’re absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as Haywards Heath Town Mayor Cllr Duncan Pascoe’s Charity of the Year for his second term.

Duncan recently visited one of our Breakaway sessions, where he met some of our members, staff, volunteers and parents, as well as our CEO Emma Hunt, and joined in with the activities.

Thank you to Duncan and Haywards Heath Town Council for recognising the importance of what we do and helping us continue making a difference to local families and the wider community.

We’re really looking forward to working together over the coming year, with lots of exciting fundraising events and community involvement ahead.

A huge good luck to Charlie as he takes on the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge this weekend in support of Kangaroos!

This incredible challenge will see Charlie take on 100km along the Jurassic Coast, that’s more than two marathons back-to-back over some seriously tough terrain. It’s an amazing achievement to even take on something like this, and we’re so grateful he has chosen to do it in aid of Kangaroos.

Every donation will help us continue supporting children and adults with learning disabilities, along with their families, through our clubs, activities and services.

Thank you, Charlie, for all your hard work, determination and support. We’ll all be cheering you on every step of the way!

If you’d like to sponsor Charlie and support his challenge, you can donate here:

A throwback to a session in April with our visitors from Lost Woods, as well as Bel, the King of the Woods!

The group enjoyed finding bugs, mainly woodlice, using bee goggles to see a bee’s vision, which was really interesting, and making art creations from nature. There was a great variety of activities and games to keep everyone busy, and the group made the visitors feel very welcome.

We are very appreciative of the ongoing support from Lost Woods and for introducing us to Bel. It was a really great session!

Free family event TODAY at Orchards Shopping Centre.

Katy and Georgie from our Kangaroos team will be there, so come and say hello and join in with some fun games! You’ll find them in the marquee next to the mini makes stand.

ONE WEEK TO GO!!! Back to our Roots takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May.

There will be various activities dotted around the marquee area in the centre for you to enjoy - with not a screen in sight!

We've laid on traditional games and more mini-makes - all taking us back to non digital fun.

No need to book for this one but we'd love it if you are planning to come to let us know in the comments.

We look forward to seeing you here.

Back in March, ahead of Down Syndrome Awareness Day on 21 March, Teenscene sported odd socks to represent the extra chromosome associated with Down Syndrome. The group discussed how we are all different. We also researched the condition and found out why the date 21/3 is significant; chromosome 21 is the extra one, and there are three types of the condition.

The group welcomed Blandine from local small business Spa and Foot Health. Blandine has shown great kindness and generosity by donating to our festive hampers, as well as fundraising for Kangaroos through her sales of bamboo socks at her clinic.

She had offered her time to meet some Kangaroos members, so it seemed the ideal evening to attend, as all of our activities were ‘sock themed’. Our guest agreed to judge our ‘Design a Sock’ competition, and the two winners were awarded… a pair of new socks!

Our members gave Blandine a lovely welcome and her help was very much appreciated.

A little throwback to March…

Rockets and Breakaway enjoyed trips to Tilgate Park and Blackberry Farm, making the most of the fresh air, open space, and time together.

From meeting the animals to sharing plenty of laughs, these moments help build friendships, confidence, and a real sense of belonging.
