Today’s mini bus trip took us to South Shields for a visit to the New Crown, followed by a little run along the coast afterwards. With the weather being wet, cold and miserable, we decided not to let it spoil our fun and tucked into a lovely pub lunch of scampi & chips all round, with halves of lager to wash it down 🍻
There was great chat, lots of laughs and plenty of banter — even the barmaid commented that we were having far too much fun for a lunchtime 😄 After lunch, we headed along the coast towards Sunderland on the hunt for dolphins, but sadly no luck this time… only windmills and lighthouses spotted! Still, it made for a lovely drive and another great afternoon out together. 😊

Our men’s club was a busy one again with lots of laughs and banter all round. We started off with a fun game of group tennis using our extra-large bats, which certainly brought out everyone’s competitive side! 🎾 We then moved on to a few rounds of dominoes, where the friendly competition continued and the concentration levels stepped up. A great social afternoon filled with laughter, chat and plenty of fun together 😊

Our Mobility Matters session in the Grace Lounge was full of fun and movement! We enjoyed a few rounds of beanbag toss, followed by a game of 10 pin bowling 🎳, keeping those joints moving. Most importantly, there were some lovely moments of engagement, laughter and chats shared throughout the session. A great way to stay active while having lots of fun together! 😊

Oh what a busy couple of days it’s been here at Hawthorn Court! We were delighted to host a Little Movers session again with the reception children from St. Aloysius School, and what a joy it was. The children danced, sang and interacted beautifully with our residents, bringing plenty of smiles, laughter and special moments for everyone involved. It was lovely to see the generations spending time together and enjoying each other’s company.
The fun continued with our very own cheese & wine parties downstairs and upstairs, both of which went down a treat! Residents enjoyed a lovely selection of cheeses, wine and beer while relaxing, chatting and enjoying the social atmosphere together. There was lots of laughter and good company, making for a thoroughly enjoyable time all round.
In between, our Knit & Natter club was in full swing, where we chatted about everything and nothing while keeping busy with our knitting. We’re making great progress and managed to get a few more poppies knitted too. A busy few days, but full of fun, friendship and wonderful memories!

🇬🇧 D-DAY 82 🇬🇧

Today we remember the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who landed on the beaches of Normandy on 6th June 1944.

Many never returned home. Their bravery helped shape the freedoms we enjoy today.

At Hawthorn Court, we honour all who have served, those who serve today, and the sacrifices made by generations of Armed Forces personnel.

We will remember them.

Today we marked D-Day a little early with a very special visit from Colin, a wonderful George Formby tribute act, and he certainly didn’t disappoint! Dressed as a wartime soldier, Colin fully embraced the spirit of the era with hat changes, different characters and plenty of terrible dad-style jokes that had everyone laughing. Alongside the fun, he treated us to a fantastic selection of wartime songs which had everyone singing along, tapping their feet and enjoying a bit of chair dancing.

The atmosphere was full of smiles, laughter and nostalgia, and it’s safe to say Colin will be the talk of the home for quite some time! We rounded off a lovely day with the kitchen team putting on a fantastic D Day-style tea, which was enjoyed by all and the perfect ending to a memorable celebration.
