X-PERT Health

X-PERT Health We help transform people’s lives through diabetes, insulin and weight loss education programmes.

X-PERT programmes are ideal for people who are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes or living with prediabetes, have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes (newly diagnosed or established), and anyone overweight or obese looking to lose weight and transform your health. Our education can be accessed via GP Referral, Remote Groups, Digital Apps, Handbooks and Audio Books/Subtitled Videos. Our programmes were c

o-created with patients to ensure they deliver a powerful, rewarding and enjoyable experience. The audit results have clinically demonstrated that our programmes help people lose weight, improve their HbA1c, reduce medications and place conditions such as prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes into remission. We have been delivering self-care diabetes education since 2008 and delighted to work with so many commissioners and have the opportunity to share our knowledge with so many people. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ A huge congratulations to our colleague Hannah, and her friend Kate, who completed the Great Manchester Run this weekend in support of Alzheimer's Society.

Inspired by their amazing effort, our CEO Trudi shared these simple lifestyle habits that research suggests may help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and support long-term brain health.

8 Lifestyle Tips for Brain Health:
✔️ Ensure adequate B vitamins
✔️ Increase omega-3 fats
✔️ Optimise vitamin D
✔️ Support healthy ketone production
✔️ Eat a real-food diet
✔️ Keep physically active
✔️ Prioritise sleep
✔️ Stay socially & mentally engaged

Small, consistent lifestyle changes can make a big difference over time. Looking after your brain starts long before old age.

Well done again Hannah and Kate for raising awareness for such an important cause 👏💜

2026 X-PERT Blog Highlights So Far...

Six months into 2026, several major themes are shaping conversations around obesity, diabetes, and cardiometabolic health.

At X-PERT Health, our recent blogs have explored:

🔹 How obesity management guidelines are evolving towards more personalised approaches
🔹 Why oversimplified narratives around obesity continue to hinder meaningful progress
🔹 The importance of understanding the strengths — and limitations — of evidence reviews in healthcare research

As research, policy, and public health conversations continue to develop, one thing remains clear: nuanced, evidence-based discussion matters more than ever.

After more than 15 years supporting structured diabetes education, we want to say a huge thank you to Claire Thomas as she begins to wind down towards retirement from Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust - West Essex Community Health Services 💙

Claire has been instrumental in delivering and championing X-PERT diabetes education — impacting countless patients and helping shape services locally.

As she hands over the baton to Sonia, we’re excited to continue this important work together.

In Claire’s words: “Thank you X-PERT for continuing to provide us with excellent support and guidance and a first-class education programme which our patients benefit enormously from.”

We’re proud to support teams like Claire and Sonia in delivering life-changing education every day.

BLOG REMINDER: Can we trust research simply because it’s labelled a “meta-analysis” or carries the Cochrane name?

Our latest blog challenges the assumption that Cochrane Reviews are always the definitive authority in healthcare research. From intermittent fasting to saturated fat guidance, Dr. Sean Wheatley examines where methodology, interpretation, and bias may influence the conclusions we see in headlines.

This week is Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week — a reminder of how important early awareness and small lifestyle changes can be in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Prediabetes often develops without noticeable symptoms, which is why understanding your risk factors and taking early action matters.

Simple, sustainable changes to nutrition, activity, sleep and weight management can have a significant impact on long-term health.

To help support education and awareness, we’ve created a range of free downloadable resources on our “What I Need to Know” page, including our Prediabetes leaflet. Access all our free resources here: www.xperthealth.org.uk/articles-and-evidence/what-i-need-to-know

This month, we welcomed educators from across the UK to our remote X-PERT Health Update Training.

As part of our commitment to quality and consistency, all educators complete update training every two years — ensuring programmes continue to reflect the latest evidence, guidance, and best practice in diabetes education.

Delivered remotely, these sessions create opportunities for shared learning, collaboration, and discussion between educators working across different NHS services and communities.

Thank you to all educators who attended our May 2026 update.

Together, improving diabetes care.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the X-PERT Health stand at the Public Health Collaboration Conference last weekend in London. It was fantastic to meet so many passionate professionals committed to improving metabolic health and supporting healthier communities.

The conversations around prevention, behaviour change, and long-term health outcomes were incredibly valuable — and it was inspiring to hear how many organisations are looking for practical, scalable approaches to supporting people living with obesity, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

We were proud to be part of such an important event marking 10 years of helping people “nourish to flourish”, alongside an excellent line-up of speakers exploring metabolic health across all stages of life.

At X-PERT Health, we remain committed to delivering evidence-based education and behaviour change programmes that empower people to take control of their health.

Thank you again to everyone who came to chat — we look forward to continuing the conversation.

A recent participant in our 'X-PERT Weight & Wellbeing programme' has reduced their HbA1c from 125 to 38 mmol/mol — moving out of the diabetic range and coming off medication.

“I cannot tell you how much of a huge relief it is knowing that I’ve reversed it (my diabetes), and that my numbers are now healthy and safe. Thank you for all of the healthy habits, and changes that you explained and for all of your support.”

This is the impact of structured education, behaviour change, and ongoing support.

Proud to deliver this in partnership with Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust

Can you still eat fruit if you are trying to lose weight?

Fruit can still be part of a healthy diet, but it is worth remembering that fruit contains more natural sugars than vegetables.

Some fruits are also higher in carbohydrates than others. For example, pineapple contains around 8g of carbs per 80g portion, which is double the amount found in berries. A typical serving of pineapple can often be much larger than 80g, so portion size matters.

Choosing more non-starchy vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, courgette, spinach, kale and green beans can help keep carbohydrate intake lower while still supporting your 5-a-day.

It is also best to avoid fruit juice, which is high in sugar and often lower in fibre.

X-PERT education programmes offer practical tips and information to help you make informed food choices and build the knowledge and confidence to self-manage your health.
