We are pleased to announce that from February 2021, we are providing an ear wax removal service at Physio and Therapies Clinic in Todmorden. Excessive ear wax build up can cause symptoms such as reduced hearing, a “blocked” sensation, itching, discomfort or tinnitus. It can also cause hearing aids to whistle and work less effectively. Recent changes within the NHS mean that GP’s are less able to r

emove ear wax and referrals to ENT services mean a long wait and heavy reliance on NHS services. We can offer a local, quick, Covid safe service with a minimal waiting time. The treatment is usually completed within 30 minutes and does not require any preparation although we recommend application of olive oil for a couple of night before treatment. We use microsuction alongside an endoscope to visualize and safely remove earwax, dry skin and foreign bodies. This treatment is recommended by NICE guidelines. We can also use specialist instruments and a safe variation of traditional ear irrigation (syringing) as required. Microsuction can be used even in the event of most previous ear conditions including grommets and long term perforated eardrums. All recommended COVID guidelines are adhered to using appropriate PPE. WE require our our clients to wear a mask unless they are exempt

Darren Jones, our earwax removal specialist has a 30 year career as a health care professional. He also lectures at Huddersfield and Teesside Universities. Darren has completed recognised training from UK Audiology. Indemnity and public liability insurances are in place.

Holiday season is approaching. If you get painful ears when flying or after swimming, this may be due to having excessive wax in your ears. Other symptoms may include itchyness, discomfort when chewing or swallowing and reduced hearing.

We offer gold standard micro suction wax removal using endoscopic videography. This means you are able to see inside your ear before and after any treatment.

I recently heard this radio programme. It follows a very typical "journey" of a man who begins to notice some hearing loss.

I get many patients coming to me thinking (and hoping) that their ears are blocked and need wax removal.

Usually this is because their spouse, partner or family have complained about their hearing. The patient however, usually says that the family members are mumbling!

Often, wax is not the problem and I advise them to follow up with an audiology service, either NHS or private.
In both cases , they can end up with much better hearing and quality of life due to getting hearing aids.

It's like they're "back in the room!" It can be quite dramatic.

I really recommend this programme and I wonder how many people can identify with it- either as the patient or their family!

I get lots of people coming to me who have been recommended all kinds of over the counter drops and other products to help with a build up of earwax. These recommendations often come from GPs and sometimes from friends.

This is an excellent programme which explores a lot of the available options, some recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care excellence), and some not!
It's a very interesting listen.

Micro-suction, available here, performed by a trained professional rates very highly as a treatment option.

Is the telly volume on full or do you have uncomfortable ears? Reduced hearing, a full feeling or itchy ears can all be a sign of excessive earwax build up.

I use endoscopic video equipment to inspect the ear canal, then gold standard micro-suction to carefully and painlessly remove wax.

I have clinics on 13th,19th and 27 March at Physio & Therapies in Todmorden. Please contact them for appointments. £25 for video otoscopy which is included in any treatment, £55 for one ear, £75 for both.

Happy New Year!
I know that January is a tight month financially therefore I'm repeating my annual January offer- two ears for the price of one- i.e. £55 for both or one ear as required throughout January.

£25 for inspection of both ears, included in any treatment price.

If you have reduced hearing, blocked ears, itchy or uncomfortable ears- they're all signs of a problem with earwax.

I use gold standard endoscopic examination and micro suction to evaluate and treat any earwax problem.
