Awen Môr

Awen Môr At Awen Mor Tai Chi, we explore the Shibashi form—a gentle, flowing practice that weaves breath, movement, and intention together.

It’s a nurturing way to calm the mind, ease tension, and reconnect with your whole self through simple, mindful movement.

Something new for Awen Môr this autumn…

I’m really pleased to introduce Awen Môr Presents — a new series of guest collaborations that will be running alongside our Tai Chi programme through the autumn and winter months.

Awen Môr Presents brings together wellbeing practitioners whose work complements and extends many of the themes we explore through Tai Chi — slowing down, finding balance, breathing, reflection, self-awareness, connection and simply creating a little more space for ourselves. Each guest workshop will offer a different way to explore these ideas and will be open to Awen Môr members and the wider community.

Our first collaboration is with Emma Nichols of Heartscape

🧭 Finding Your Compass – Taster Session

Thursday 10th September 2026

Has life shifted, leaving the way forward unclear?

This gentle, guided workshop is for women in midlife and beyond who may have lost sight of themselves through change, or simply have a sense that something needs to shift but aren't quite sure where to begin.

In a small, welcoming group, Emma will introduce you to the idea of your core values as an inner compass — helping you pause, reconnect with what matters to you and begin finding a little more clarity about what comes next.

There’s nothing to prepare and no previous experience needed. Expect a warm welcome, conversation and connection, a first exploration of your own values and a simple practice to take away with you.

This taster also introduces Emma’s wider Living Your Values Series for anyone who feels they would like to explore the work more deeply.

Emma is a Member of the Complementary Medical Association (CMA) and a polyvagal-informed holistic therapist.

I’m really excited to be able to bring different practitioners and approaches into the Awen Môr community in this way — and there are more Awen Môr Presents collaborations to come over the next few months.

Have a look at the poster for all the details, and please feel very welcome to share it with anyone you think might enjoy this session.

🌊 A farewell to Tai Chi by the Sea… for now 🌧️

Sadly, our last Tai Chi by the Sea of the summer won’t be going ahead this morning. The rain needs to come — and after all our beautiful mornings beside the harbour, perhaps it’s rather fitting to let nature have the final say.

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”
— Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

And so our summer practice draws to a close. 💙

What a wonderful few months it has been.

We’ve welcomed people visiting Porthleven who discovered us by chance, curious passers-by trying Tai Chi for the very first time, and familiar faces from our Awen Môr groups coming down to practise beside the sea.

For those already learning with us, practising outdoors has also been a wonderful way to Deepen the Practice — taking Tai Chi beyond the familiarity of the hall and learning to find our softness, balance, breath and focus while the world continues around us.

The wind blows. The gulls call. Boats move through the harbour. People wander past.

And we discover that our stillness doesn’t depend upon everything around us being still. 🌊

Perhaps that is one of the loveliest lessons of our summer.

A huge thank you to Porthleven Harbour & Dock Company for supporting our outdoor sessions and allowing Harbour Head to become our summer practice space, and to every passer-by who stopped, smiled, watched, waved, asked a question or joined us. You’ve all been part of Tai Chi by the Sea.

And although our regular summer sessions are ending, we have enjoyed practising outside far too much for this to be goodbye!

👀 Keep an eye out for occasional Awen Môr outdoor pop-up sessions whenever the weather, season and location invite us outside again.

🍂 And as summer begins to give way to autumn…

Perhaps you’re looking for something new to carry you through the darker months. A reason to move, breathe, slow down, meet people and give yourself an hour each week that is simply yours.

Our Awen Môr Tai Chi sessions continue indoors throughout autumn, with opportunities for complete beginners as well as those wanting to deepen an existing practice.

If you’ve watched us by the harbour this summer and thought, “I’d quite like to try that…” — perhaps autumn is your time.

Get in touch and I’ll help you find the right place to begin. 🍂

And finally, if you have any photographs of us practising at Harbour Head this summer, please share them! I’d love to gather together some memories of our first summer of Tai Chi by the Sea.

Thank you to everyone who came along.

Until we meet outside again… 🌊

🌊 TAI CHI BY THE SEA – NOT ON THIS MORNING ☔️

With the weather being rather unpredictable, we won’t be practising at the harbour this morning.

But perhaps there’s a Tai Chi lesson in that too! ☯️

In Chinese philosophy, Water is one of the Five Elements, reminding us of the qualities of flow, softness and adaptability — qualities we can explore in our Tai Chi practice

So let’s take our cue from the weather today. Practise a few moves at home, explore the feeling of water in your movement, and remember one of our foundations:

Soften. Adapt. Go with the flow. 🌊

See you back by the sea on Saturday weather permitting! 💙

ONE HOUR OF CALM — JUST FOR YOU

Summer can be wonderful… but it can also be busy, noisy and full-on.

This week, give yourself an hour to step away from it all.

🌊 Tai Chi Shibashi Taster Sessions

📍 Porthleven — TOMORROW, Tuesday 18th August | 1.30pm Porthleven Public Hall & Women's Institute
📍 Carleen — Wednesday 19th August | 2.30pm Carleen Village Hall

An hour to slow down, breathe, move gently and simply be present.

No experience needed. No pressure to get anything right. Just gentle, flowing movement and guided practice — suitable for all ages and abilities.

☀️ Visiting Cornwall? You’re very welcome too.
If you’re looking for an alternative holiday activity away from the crowds — something gentle that brings calm, focus and a little breathing space — come and spend an hour practising with us. There’s no obligation to continue onto a course.

For those who live locally, as summer begins to turn towards autumn, this is also a lovely opportunity to begin a practice that can support you through the months ahead — creating more calm, balance and space in everyday life.

Our tasters lead into small six-week beginner groups starting next week, with numbers deliberately limited so everyone receives plenty of individual guidance.

☀️ If you’ve been meaning to try Tai Chi, this is your moment.

Spaces are limited — booking is essential.

🌊 No Tai Chi by the Sea tomorrow 🌊

Just a little reminder that we won’t be practising tomorrow morning, but we’ll be back at Harbour Head on Wednesday as usual, 8–9am.

Enjoy your Saturday morning and I’ll see you by the sea next week. 🌊☀️
