A brilliant campaign, well done all involved.
We're proud to announce the launch of a new mental health awareness campaign from Herefordshire Mind, supported by Herefordshire Council, Hereford Pubwatch, and a range of local mental health support organisations.
Over 20,000 specially designed beer mats have now been distributed to more than 60 pubs, bars and social clubs across Hereford City, helping to put vital mental health information directly into the hands of people where they meet, socialise and connect.
Each beer mat provides discreet signposting to local and national support services, including Herefordshire Mind, We Are Farming Minds, Andys Man Club Hereford, Hereford Men's Mental Health group, Men Walking and Talking, SHOUT , and NHS 111, as well as a QR code linking to a wider range of mental health resources.
Our message is clear: it doesn't matter to us who you contact, just reach out to someone.
Alongside the beer mats, venues have been provided with our new su***de prevention resource, "Ask. Assess. Act." This simple flowchart has been created to help bar staff and community venue teams recognise when someone may be experiencing a mental health crisis and give them the confidence to respond appropriately, just as they would in a physical health emergency.
The resource encourages staff to:
✅ Ask direct and supportive questions
✅ Assess the situation, just as they would any physical health emergency
✅ Act by seeking emergency support or signposting to available services
This campaign is about making support more visible, accessible and easier to find. It's not about replacing professional services, but helping communities feel empowered to start conversations, offer support and know where to turn when it matters most.
A huge thank you to all our partners and participating venues for helping us bring this important initiative to life and supporting su***de prevention across Herefordshire.
