I've been reflecting recently on how quickly we move to change discomfort when it shows up in our body.

We stretch it, massage it, distract ourselves, push through it or try not to think about it.

And sometimes that's exactly what we need.

But sometimes I wonder whether we're responding not only to the sensation itself, but also to the fear, frustration, uncertainty or discomfort that comes with it.

What happens if, just for a moment, we bring a little curiosity instead?

I wrote a few reflections about this recently, along with a simple experiment you might like to try 🌿

I've been reflecting recently on something...

When discomfort shows up in our body, whether that's tension, pain, tightness or stress, our instinct is (understandably) often to move around it.

Sometimes quite literally: we brace, protect, compensate and try to make it go away.

And of course, that makes complete sense.

But it got me thinking...
We're often encouraged to go towards emotional pain rather than suppress it.

But what about physical discomfort?

What happens when we gently stop walking around it quite so much, and become curious about what our body might be asking for?

I wrote something about this recently, if it resonates 🌿

Sometimes people come to me not really knowing what they need. They just know what they’re experiencing...
Stress feels held in the body.
Tension never really softens.
Fluctuating anxiety and overwhelm.
Digestive discomfort.

Sometimes a feeling of being disconnected from themselves.
And I think there can be pressure to figure it all out first and to understand the reason or find the “right” solution.

But sometimes we begin somewhere simpler. By slowing down, listening and becoming curious about what our body may be communicating.

This is the heart of my Embodied Health sessions: a gentle, body-led space to notice what’s here and begin where you are.
You don’t need to have the right words.
You don’t need to know the answers.
We simply begin there, with curiosity 🌿

Sometimes people reach out without really knowing what they need.

They just know something doesn’t feel quite right.
Stress feels held in the body.
Tension never really softens.
They feel tired, disconnected, overwhelmed… or simply in need of space to exhale.

You don’t need to understand everything first.

Sometimes we simply begin with the body.
Breath.
Movement.
Gentle touch.
A slower pace.

Traditional Thai bodywork can be a gentle way back into connection with ourselves.

No pressure to go deep - or to know exactly what you need.
We simply begin where you are 🌿

So much of what we’re taught around discomfort in the body is about fixing.
Sometimes that’s important.
But sometimes, before trying to change what we’re feeling, something else can help first:

slowing down
listening
becoming curious

What is our body communicating?

This way of working runs through my somatic bodywork, abdominal therapy and embodied health sessions.

Not fixing straight away.
Beginning with listening.

Sometimes our body makes sense before we do.

We may notice tension, discomfort, fatigue, jaw holding, a tight chest, digestive discomfort… and understandably we just want to make it stop.

But sometimes our body may be responding to stress, overwhelm, protection, or emotions that haven’t yet had space to fully move through.

Not because something is “wrong” with us, but because our body is communicating.

Sometimes a different question can help:
- What might this be expressing?

We don't need to analyse or try to figure everything out.... we just begin with curiosity.

I’ve shared a few reflections about this in my latest post - and a little more on my website if you’d like to read further:

Our body is constantly communicating with us
..Not just when something feels “wrong”, but through sensation, breath, tension and holding.
Sometimes quietly… sometimes more loudly - and often not at random.

This can be the beginning of understanding

We're often taught to fix what we feel in our body.
But sometimes, what's needed first... Is to listen.

Over the years, the work I’ve been offering has always been centred around the same thing: listening to our body.

Whether through touch, breath or awareness… we can gently meet what is held, rather than trying to fix it.

What I’m sharing now is an extension of that same approach, a new branch.

A way of exploring patterns of holding and coping in the body without hands-on bodywork -
through guided sessions that follow the body’s present experience, in the same gentle, responsive way.

Some people connect to their body more deeply through touch. Others feel more comfortable beginning through conversation and guided awareness.

Both lead to the same place: a deeper connection with your body…
and the possibility for held tension, emotions and symptoms to begin to soften and release.

This is Embodied Health.
If you’ve been curious about exploring what your body is holding, but not sure where to begin, this may be a way in.
