I’m so grateful for a week of clients, students, meetings, calls….

So now it’s time to let it all sink in and let gratitude wash over me.

At the end of my yoga and 1:1 sessions I often do a gratitude practice. This helps, scientifically by the way, to rewire your brain to produce all the ‘feel good’ hormones.

The science of gratitude lowers your stress hormones and helps to improve positive thinking and regulation.

What are YOU grateful for today?? ❤️🦄❤️🦄❤️

What actually makes something traumatic?

Trauam is often at the root of most ill health; be that mental, physical or emotional.

But trauma isn't actually about the event itself. It's more about what the nervous system experienced as too much, too fast, too overwhelming, or too alone. In any given situation this can be encoded as 'traumatic'.

Sometimes the body never fully receives the message that the danger has passed and our physiology lives as though we're still under threat.

In my latest blog, I explore what actually makes something traumatic — and why trauma can continue living in the body long after the event itself.

You can read about it here:
https://www.embodiedtraumatherapies.com/blog/whatmakessomethingtraumatic

What is trauma? Learn how trauma affects the nervous system and body, why you may still feel stuck in survival mode, and how somatic and body-based approaches can support healing, regulation and resilience.

Exhausted but can’t actually switch off?

Yep- it’s the nervous system staying on high alert to keep you safe.

Even though you ‘know’ you’re safe, your body needs somatic signals; you can’t think your way into relaxation.

If you start becoming aware of those moments or glimmers of calm, when you feel even a little bit more relaxed or supported during the day, you can come back to those moments as tools for regulation.

I’ve shared a short video explaining this more.

You can’t think your way out of a dysregulated nervous system 🌻

Havening techniques is a sensory motor trauma therapy. I often use this in my one-to-one somatic yoga therapy sessions to help reduce emotional charge to distressing or traumatic memories. 🌻

But it can also be used during the day as an amazing tool to help regulate and calm your nervous system any time you need.🌻

Havering uses the signals of gentle touch and awareness to tell your body your brain and nervous system that you are safe and held.🌻

Try this Practice for a few minutes either stroking the palms of your hands together gently or crossing your arms stroking from your shoulders down to your elbows.🌻

Be aware of the sensation of touch the temperature, the pressure.

Notice how you feel afterwards.

When we are, and more relaxed, we can enjoy life more and stop living on the edge. 🌻

Many people aren’t stuck because they don’t understand their problems, but because their nervous system is still in survival mode. 🌻

In my Yoga & Mindfulness course we gently work with the body and nervous system through breath, movement, somatic awareness and mindfulness to help you feel calmer, safer and more at home in yourself. 🪻

My next spring course begins on:
Thursday 16th April
9.30-10.30am

If you can’t make the Hertford course, I also work one-to-one in person and online, supporting nervous system regulation, trauma recovery, and embodiment through somatic therapy, yoga therapy and mindfulness.

DM me for a free call to see how somatic Therapy and Yoga can help you to feel more embodied and calm 🌺
