Today I had an interesting experience.

I was chatting with two physiotherapists and the conversation turned to qualifications. When I mentioned I was a massage therapist and showed my credentials, the response felt surprisingly dismissive.

It caught me off guard.

Not because I felt I had something to prove, but because after nearly 20 years of studying, treating clients, investing in further education, and helping people move better and feel better, it reminded me of a bigger issue within our industry.

There's still a perception that some professions are "serious" and others are somehow less so.

Physios, osteopaths, chiropractors, sports therapists and massage therapists all have different skill sets, different approaches and different strengths. Yet the goal should always be the same: helping the person in front of us.

The client doesn't care about professional ego.

They care about getting out of pain.

They care about sleeping through the night.

They care about being able to pick up their children, play golf, go for a walk, or simply get through the day comfortably.

Maybe the problem isn't the professions themselves.

Maybe it's that the public is still confused about where each profession sits and what each one brings to the table.

For me, the best practitioners aren't the ones who spend their time looking down on others.

They're the ones who keep learning, keep growing and put the client first.
