βοΈ THE SIDE OF TRAVEL SICKNESS PEOPLE DON'T SEEβ¦ π€’π
Since I was a little girl, I have suffered with extreme travel sickness.
Cars, boats, flightsβ¦ if I'm not driving, my body can react like I've been put on a rollercoaster from hell π
.
For most people, travel means excitement, adventure and making memories. For me, there has always been a little bit of fear in the background.
"Will I be okay?"
"Will this journey be the one that takes me down?"
Yesterday on a flight to Morocco, I experienced one of the worst episodes of travel sickness I have ever had.
After around an hour in the air, I became violently sick. It didn't stop. I was shaking uncontrollably, pouring with sweat, then freezing with cold shivers.
My friends Jess, Lyndsey and Chantelle were terrified seeing me in that state, but I remained fully conscious and aware of everything happening around me.
When we landed, the staff at Agadir Airport were absolutely incredible. They got me medical assistance quickly and treated me with such kindness and care.
I was taken by ambulance to hospital where the doctors and nurses looked after me, gave me anti-sickness treatment and helped me stabilise.
What also shocked me was the cost.
π Ambulance, hospital assessment and treatment: 60 Moroccan Dirhams (around Β£5)
π Prescription medication: 77 Moroccan Dirhams (around Β£6.50)
A reminder that incredible human care doesn't always come with an enormous price tag.
Today, I am resting in Morocco, drinking tea, eating biscuits and thankfully keeping everything down πβπͺ.
And although this experience was genuinely frightening, I refuse to let it stop me.
My work is taking me around the world more and more in the near future πβ¨, so rather than avoiding travel, I'm now making it my mission to understand my body better and create a proper travel strategy.
This includes reviewing my medication timing, finding the best anti-sickness approach for me and making sure I am prepared before every journey.
The world is too beautiful not to exploreβ¦ even if my stomach sometimes disagrees ππ€’π΄βοΈ
If anyone else suffers with severe travel sickness, I see you. It isn't "just feeling a little sick". It can be completely debilitating.
Here's to healing, learning and not letting fear stop the adventure β€οΈβ¨π
