Getting back into exercise after stoma surgery can feel daunting, and that's completely understandable 💙

There's no rush. Gentle activities like walking are a good place to start, and your healthcare team can advise on when to do more. Focus on breathing techniques as per the Breathing and Movements guide. If you notice any pain or discomfort around your stoma, stop and seek advice.

Swipe for our next ‘what to…’ tips, and find our free Breathing and Movements Guide using the link in bio.

If you are unsure, speak to your Stoma Care Nurse or healthcare professional before starting any new exercise after surgery.

Part 2 of 6: My Worsening Condition

"Acceptance doesn't have a deadline." 💙

Following on from Stoma Aware Day, we're keeping this conversation going.

You don't have to love your stoma straight away. You're allowed to grieve what you had before, to feel angry, and to struggle. Surgery can save your life, and adjusting to it can still be hard. Both can be true.

However long it takes, you're not doing it alone. 💬 If this sounds familiar, share it with someone who might need to hear this today.

If you're ever concerned about changes to your bowel habits, please speak to your GP.

This Stoma Aware Day, the theme is One Community, Stronger Together, and part of being a community is making room for every experience, not just the easy ones.

Stoma surgery can save a life, and it can still take time to feel okay about it. Being grateful to be here and struggling with what's changed can both be true.

Conversations like this help someone else feel less alone. If you've felt this way too, you're part of a community that gets it.
