Going back is not simply a return to lessons. It can mean adjusting to a new teacher, classroom, timetable, friendships, sensory environment and expectations, all at once.

During the first few weeks, you may notice:

๐Ÿ’š Increased anxiety or repeated questions
๐Ÿ’š Sleep difficulties or physical complaints
๐Ÿ’š Greater sensory sensitivity
๐Ÿ’š Meltdowns or shutdowns after school
๐Ÿ’š Irritability or a stronger need for control
๐Ÿ’š Masking at school followed by exhaustion at home
๐Ÿ’š Changes in eating, toileting or self-care
๐Ÿ’š Reluctance or distress around attending school

These are not necessarily signs that a child is being difficult. They may show that their nervous system is working incredibly hard to manage the demands of the school day.

Visual timetables, predictable routines, quieter arrivals, transition warnings, sensory breaks and additional recovery time can all help.

Support should begin before a child becomes overwhelmed. Remember, a child who appears settled at school may release everything when they reach the safety of home.

Starting school or moving into a new class can feel overwhelming. A Worry Jar gives children a gentle way to share feelings at their own pace.

All you need is:

๐Ÿ’š A clean jam jar
๐Ÿ’š Stickers or pens
๐Ÿ’š Small pieces of paper

Invite your child to decorate the jar, then write or draw their worries and place them inside.

Choose a quiet time to open the jar together. Listen with curiosity, validate each worry and explore what might help.

๐…๐จ๐ซ ๐ž๐ฑ๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž:

โ€œI understand why making friends feels worrying. I wonder if other children feel the same. How could we show someone we would like to be their friend?โ€

You could practise smiling, saying hello or asking, โ€œWould you like to play?โ€

The aim is not to remove every worry. It is to show your child that their feelings make sense and they do not have to manage them alone. ๐Ÿ’š

Co-regulation is the supportive process where a calm, trusted adult helps a child or young person manage and understand their emotions. Before children can fully self-regulate, they often need someone alongside them to model calmness, empathy, and emotional safety.

By staying present, listening without judgement, and responding with patience, we help children feel understood and secure. This not only reduces stress in the moment but also builds the skills they need to manage emotions independently in the future.

๐Ÿ’ก Co-regulation isnโ€™t about controlling behaviour, itโ€™s about creating connection, understanding whatโ€™s behind the behaviour, and helping young people feel safe enough to learn healthier ways to cope. ๐Ÿ’ก

For quite some time, Amy has been quietly working on a project that is incredibly close to her heart.

It brings together her experience of supporting children and families, her belief in the importance of emotional connection, and a little imagination and magic too.

It has been created to help children explore feelings that are not always easy to understand or put into words, and to give the adults supporting them a gentle way to begin those important conversations.

Alongside the programme, we have created a dedicated Parent and Carer Guide. This booklet allows families to follow the programme week by week, understand what their child is exploring during each session, and continue those helpful conversations at home.

At ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐’๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐‹๐ญ๐, we truly value the important role parents and carers play in supporting childrenโ€™s emotional wellbeing. We may provide families with practical tools, strategies and guidance, but it is parents and carers who will continue to nurture and build upon these skills long after our time together comes to an end.

By bringing parents and carers along on the journey, we can create a more consistent and supportive experience for every child, helping them feel understood, reassured and better prepared for the transition ahead.

๐ŸƒWe are also incredibly grateful to be delivering our programme within the beautiful local sensory garden (when the weather is on our side). As a thank you, we will be making a donation to the garden for every child registered on the programme, helping to support this valuable community space for others to enjoy.๐Ÿƒ

Starting Reception, moving into junior or senior school, or simply progressing into a new year group can bring big changes for children.

New routines, unfamiliar surroundings, increased structure and greater expectations can feel exciting, but they can also lead to worry, uncertainty and overwhelm.

Throughout the summer, we have been supporting children preparing for these important transitions, including those starting school for the very first time and those moving on to senior school.

๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐’๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐‹๐ญ๐ offers emotional wellbeing support for children. Through stories, arts and crafts, movement, sensory equipment and creative wellbeing strategies, we provide a nurturing space where children can:

๐ŸŒฑ Explore and understand their emotions
๐ŸŒฑ Express worries in a way that feels manageable
๐ŸŒฑ Develop calming and regulation strategies
๐ŸŒฑ Build confidence around change and new routines
๐ŸŒฑ Feel safe, secure, understood and supported
๐ŸŒฑ Inclusive of SEND & Neurodiverse needs

Every child is different, so our sessions are shaped around the individual and what works best for them.

Appointments are available after school or within your childโ€™s education setting.

Now in its second year, our programme has been carefully developed using feedback from last year. We have continued working hard to make it an even more supportive, engaging and positive experience for every child.

Whether your child is feeling anxious, worrying about what comes next, concerned about friendships, or finding the changes that come with transition overwhelming, we are here to help.

Throughout the programme, we will explore all aspects of transition in a safe and welcoming environment. Your child will have opportunities to build confidence, develop helpful coping strategies, make new friends, and share any thoughts or concerns as the programme progresses.

If you feel your child would benefit from this support, please get in touch as soon as possible to secure one of our remaining spaces. ๐Ÿ’š
