Sometimes the person who seems the strongest is fighting a battle you cannot see. A simple “Are you really okay?”, a message, a phone call, or simply sitting beside someone could matter more than you realise. Reach out. Check in. Listen without judgement. And if you’re the one struggling, please don’t carry it alone—tell someone. Silence can hide unbearable pain, but connection can open the door to hope. You matter. Your story matters. And asking for help can be the beginning of something changing. 💜
This September, during Su***de Prevention Month, let’s make sure nobody feels they have to suffer in silence.

PEOPLE-PLEASING: WHEN DID BEING A GOOD PERSON START MEANING

You notice the change in someone's mood before they've even said a word.

You say “yes” when every part of you wants to say “no.”

You apologise when you've done nothing wrong.

You worry that setting a boundary will upset someone.

You carry other people's problems home with you.

And somewhere along the way, you've become so busy making sure everybody else is okay that you've forgotten to ask yourself one very important question…

“Am I okay?”

People-pleasing can look like kindness from the outside.

But underneath, it can be exhausting.

When you're constantly monitoring other people's emotions, avoiding conflict and worrying about disappointing people, your mind rarely gets the opportunity to switch off.

Over time, that pressure can contribute to stress, anxiety, overwhelm, poor sleep, exhaustion, resentment and a loss of confidence in your own decisions.

You can become so accustomed to asking:

What do they need?
Will they be upset?
What will they think of me?

…that you stop asking:

What do I need?

💜 This is where Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy can be incredibly positive.

Rather than endlessly analysing everything that's happened in your past, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps you begin focusing on where you want to be and the small, achievable changes that can help you move towards it.

It can support you in learning to recognise unhelpful patterns, quieten that constant mental chatter and develop healthier responses to situations that previously triggered worry or guilt.

You begin reconnecting with your confidence, your choices, your boundaries and ultimately yourself.

And something important starts to change.

“No” doesn't have to mean “I'm unkind.”

It can mean:

“I don't have capacity today.”

Rest doesn't mean you're lazy.

It means you're listening to yourself.

A boundary isn't rejection.

It's recognising that your wellbeing matters too.

Putting yourself first occasionally doesn't make you selfish.

It makes you human.

Because you cannot continually pour your emotional energy into everybody around you and expect there to be an unlimited supply.

And here's something I wish more people understood:

You are not responsible for everybody else's happiness.

You can be compassionate without carrying everyone's problems.

You can support someone without sacrificing yourself.

You can love people and still have boundaries.

You can say no and still be a good person.

You can choose yourself without rejecting everybody else.

💜 Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy can help you rediscover the person underneath all those expectations — and start creating a calmer, more confident way of living.

Not a version of you who stops caring.

A version of you who finally remembers to care about yourself as well.

You belong on your own list of people to look after.

If you're exhausted from constantly trying to keep everyone else happy, perhaps it's time to discover what life could feel like when your happiness matters too.

This may just help a parent, grandparent, guardian or teacher. Apologies, this is a little long, but everyone will resonate with this...

Childhood trauma doesn’t always look like trauma.

Sometimes it looks like anger.

Sometimes it looks like defiance, withdrawal, anxiety, poor sleep, perfectionism or constant reassurance-seeking.

Sometimes it looks like a child who is labelled “difficult” when, underneath the behaviour, they are actually struggling to feel safe.

It’s not just behaviour. It may be what’s underneath the behaviour.

When a child experiences frightening, overwhelming or unpredictable events, their developing nervous system can learn to stay on alert. Their reactions can become automatic rather than deliberate.
So instead of asking:
“Why are they behaving like this?”

we can begin asking:
“What might this child be communicating through their behaviour?”

That single change in perspective can be incredibly powerful.
A child who constantly loses their temper may not simply need more discipline.
A teenager who shuts themselves away may not simply be “uncommunicative.”
A child who worries excessively may not be “attention seeking.”
There may be a nervous system that has learned “I need to protect myself.”

💜 Where Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy takes a different direction from repeatedly dwelling on everything that has gone wrong.
It combines solution-focused conversation, neuroscience-informed approaches and guided relaxation/hypnosis to help young people understand their brains, recognise patterns and develop healthier ways of responding.
With children and adolescents, sessions can be adapted to their age, personality and needs. Rather than expecting a young person to sit and talk extensively about difficult experiences, the work can focus on questions such as:

“What would you like to feel instead?”
“When do you already cope better?”
“What would be different if things became easier?”

Through relaxation and therapeutic techniques, the young person can practise moving away from a constant state of threat and towards greater calm, confidence and emotional regulation.
And sometimes the most important thing a young person needs to hear is:
“There isn't something wrong with you. Your brain has been trying to protect you.”

🌱 The goal isn't to erase the past.

It is to help a young person develop the resources to respond differently to the future.
That may mean becoming more confident, managing anxiety more effectively, sleeping better, coping with overwhelming emotions, improving relationships or simply feeling more like themselves again.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy isn't a magic wand, and no responsible therapist should promise that it will “cure” childhood trauma. Trauma can require specialist, trauma-informed psychological or medical support, particularly where there has been significant abuse, neglect or ongoing danger.
But when appropriately delivered by a suitably trained practitioner, solution-focused and relaxation-based work can be a valuable part of supporting a young person's emotional wellbeing.

💜 Look beyond the behaviour.

Because behind the behaviour may be a child who is overwhelmed.
Behind the anger may be fear.
Behind withdrawal may be protection.
Behind anxiety may be a brain that has learned to expect danger.
Connection before correction.
Understanding before judgement.
Safety before expecting change.
And sometimes, changing the question from “What's wrong with this child?” to “What has this child been through, and what do they need now?” is where meaningful change begins.

💜 Connection Before Correction 💜

As parents, it's natural to want to correct behaviour the moment it happens. We want our children to learn right from wrong, to be respectful and to make good choices.
But what if the quickest way to change behaviour isn't correcting it first?

When your child is overwhelmed, angry, anxious or upset, their brain isn't in a place where it can think logically. Their emotional brain has taken over, and the part responsible for reasoning, learning and problem-solving temporarily goes offline.
In that moment, lectures, punishments or raised voices rarely teach the lesson we're hoping they will.
Instead, they often create more distress.

✨ Connection comes first. Correction comes second.

That doesn't mean ignoring poor behaviour or letting children "get away with it." It means helping them feel safe enough for their thinking brain to come back online.

Try saying: 💜 "I can see you're really upset." 💜 "This feels really hard for you." 💜 "I'm here with you."

Once they feel calmer, they're far more able to hear: ✔️ "Throwing toys isn't safe." ✔️ "We speak kindly to each other." ✔️ "Let's think about a better way to handle this next time."
Children don't need perfect parents.
They need parents who help them regulate before expecting them to reason.

Sometimes the greatest lesson we can teach our children isn't obedience...
It's showing them how to feel safe, understood and emotionally regulated.
Because children who feel connected are far more likely to cooperate than children who feel criticised.

💜 Connection builds trust. Calm builds confidence. Consistency builds resilient children.

If your child struggles with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, anger or confidence, Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy can help them develop the tools they need to thrive.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents... grab a coffee, take 5mins to read, what could be a lifeline for your child.

When a Teenager's Window of Tolerance Begins to Close…

As parents, we often see the changes before our teenagers do.
The confident, chatty child who once laughed freely suddenly becomes withdrawn. Small setbacks feel overwhelming. Tempers flare over the tiniest things, or they seem emotionally numb and disconnected.
It can be frightening to watch.

The truth is, many teenagers aren't "being difficult." Their Window of Tolerance has simply become much smaller.
The Window of Tolerance is the zone where our brain feels calm, safe and able to cope with life's everyday challenges. When this window is opened we're happy, confident, we can think clearly, solve problems, regulate our emotions and make good decisions.

For teenagers, whose brains are still developing, this window can close shut surprisingly quickly.

School pressures, GCSEs or A-Levels, social media, friendship difficulties, family changes, bullying, relationship worries and uncertainty about the future can all push them to close their window of tolerance.

When Their Window Closes...

Some teenagers move into hyperarousal – their brain's fight or flight response.
You might notice:
Constant anxiety or panic
Anger and emotional outbursts
Difficulty concentrating
Racing thoughts
Restlessness
Poor sleep
Feeling overwhelmed by even simple tasks.

Others experience hypoarousal – the freeze response.
This can look like:
Low mood
Emotional numbness
Withdrawal from family and friends
Lack of motivation
Fatigue
Feeling disconnected
"I just don't care anymore."

Neither of these responses are a choice, that your child is making.
It's the brain trying to protect itself when it believes life feels overwhelming.

Imagine Their Window Wide Open...
Now imagine that same teenager with a wide, healthy Window of Tolerance.
They still experience stress—because life will always have challenges—but they recover much more quickly.
They become: ✨ More confident ✨ More resilient ✨ Better able to regulate emotions ✨ Calmer under pressure ✨ More focused in school or college ✨ Better at maintaining friendships ✨ More optimistic about the future ✨ Able to enjoy life again.

Instead of constantly surviving...
They begin thriving.

How Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Can Help...

At Rediscover & Rebalance Hypnotherapy, I work with teenagers and young adults using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy—a gentle, evidence-informed approach that combines positive psychology, neuroscience and relaxation techniques.
Rather than repeatedly revisiting painful memories or analysing every problem, we focus on helping young people understand how their brain works, recognise their strengths and build healthier thinking patterns.
By reducing anxiety and calming the overactive stress response, many young people find it easier to widen their Window of Tolerance. As their nervous system becomes more balanced, confidence grows, emotional regulation improves, and everyday challenges begin to feel manageable again.

Every young person deserves to know that they are not broken, and that the way they are feeling today does not have to define their future.
Sometimes, with the right support, a calmer, happier and more confident version of themselves is much closer than they realise.

💜 If your child seems overwhelmed, withdrawn or anxious, there is hope. Life really can feel different.
Rediscover & Rebalance Hypnotherapy offers compassionate, personalised support to help teenagers and young adults build resilience, confidence and emotional wellbeing—so they can move from simply coping to truly enjoying life again.

📩 If you'd like to learn more or arrange an initial consultation, please get in touch. Together, we can help them rediscover their strength and rebalance their life.

“I've tried talking about my problems for years... why do I still feel anxious?”

It's a question I hear all the time.
Many people come to Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy after trying CBT, counselling, or other talking therapies. They often tell me they understand why they feel anxious—but they still don't feel any different.
Why?
Talking about problems can be valuable, but repeatedly revisiting difficult experiences doesn't always teach the brain to respond differently.
Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy takes a different approach.
Instead of dwelling on what's wrong, we focus on: 🧠 How your brain creates anxiety and stress. 💙 What is already working well in your life. 🌱 Building new neural pathways through positive thinking and relaxation. 💪 Developing practical strategies that help you move forward with confidence.
Hypnosis helps create a deeply relaxed state, allowing the mind to become more receptive to positive change while reducing the effects of chronic stress.
Many clients experience: ✔ Reduced anxiety ✔ Greater emotional resilience ✔ Improved sleep ✔ Increased confidence ✔ Freedom from fears and phobias ✔ A calmer, more positive mindset
The goal isn't to spend months analysing the past—it's to help you build the future you want.
If anxiety, stress or fear is holding you back, imagine where you could be in just a few weeks.

How Hypnotherapy Can Help You Overcome Fear

Fear is a natural human emotion. It exists to protect us from danger, but sometimes our fears become overwhelming and begin to control our lives. Whether it's a fear of flying, public speaking, driving, needles, social situations, or a specific phobia, these fears can limit opportunities, affect relationships, and reduce confidence.

Clinical hypnotherapy offers a safe, evidence-informed approach that can help people change the way they respond to fear.

During hypnotherapy, you remain aware and in control while entering a deeply relaxed state of focused attention. In this state, the mind is often more receptive to positive suggestions and therapeutic techniques that can help reduce unhelpful thought patterns and emotional responses.

Rather than simply masking symptoms, Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy works by helping clients understand how the brain processes anxiety and fear. As stress levels reduce, the brain is better able to respond calmly and rationally, allowing confidence to replace fear.

Many people seek hypnotherapy to help with:

- Fear of flying
- Fear of driving
- Public speaking anxiety
- Needle or dental phobias
- Fear of heights
- Social anxiety
- Exam or performance anxiety
- Health-related fears

Every person's experience is unique, so treatment is tailored to their individual needs and goals. Many clients notice improvements in their confidence, resilience, and ability to face situations that once felt impossible.

You don't have to let fear dictate your life. With the right support, it's possible to retrain your mind, build confidence, and regain your freedom.

Take the first step today. If fear is preventing you from living the life you want, contact Rediscover and Rebalance Clinical Hypnotherapy to book your initial consultation. Together, we can help you move beyond fear and towards a calmer, more confident future.

*Racing heart
*Shortness of breath

*Panic attacks
*Lack of concentration
*Feeling overwhelmed
These reactions are real, but they don't have to become permanent.

How Clinical Hypnotherapy Helps.

During hypnosis, clients remain aware and in control while entering a deeply relaxed state. This allows the brain to become more receptive to positive suggestions and helps reduce the overactive stress response that contributes to anxiety.
Many clients experience:
*Reduced anxiety and panic
*Better quality sleep

*Greater emotional resilience
*Improved focus and clarity
A calmer, more positive mindset
