Aromatherapy is the controlled use of essential oils by different methods to enhance the well-being of the mind, body and spirit. It uses pure essences from plants, which may have a preventative effect, helping to care for common ailments while working alongside medical treatment in the healing process. Essential oils are highly fragrant, volatile and are extracted from flowers, leaves, twigs, bark, roots and fruits of many common plants. The essential oils have many different properties and as research has shown, can be stimulating, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, relaxing, calming, soothing and uplifting. Aromatherapy, therefore, has the ability to affect the emotions, promote bodily well-being and balance psychologically. Aromatherapy is beneficial to most people in most circumstances. Essential oils must be diluted and used with care, preferably under the guidance of a qualified IFPA aromatherapist. When used correctly and by a qualified IFPA aromatherapist, aromatherapy can be effective for a wide client group. Your local aromatherapist will help to advise you on which method and treatment would be best for you.

Citrus oils are often associated with summer. Their fresh, uplifting aromas make them popular choices for diffuser blends, body oils and personal care products. However, some citrus oils contain compounds that can increase the skin's sensitivity to ultraviolet light.

This process is known as photosensitivity. When phototoxic oils are applied to the skin before sun exposure, they may increase the risk of skin reactions or pigmentation changes.

Examples include:

• Bergamot (unless FCF)
• Lime expressed
• Bitter Orange
• Grapefruit (depending on use and concentration)

This doesn't mean these oils should be avoided, it means they should be used with appropriate knowledge and consideration.

Summer often encourages us to keep moving. From one activity to the next, one conversation to another, one environment to the next. Yet the nervous system benefits from small moments of pause.

This simple sensory reset can be used between meetings, social events, travel or periods of concentrated work.

A small pause can often help the body process what has already happened before moving on to what comes next.

Sometimes recovery is not about doing less, it's about reducing the amount the nervous system needs to process.

The Lavender in our blend supports nervous system regulation, whilst the Spearmint provides freshness without the stronger stimulation associated with Peppermint, and finally the Frankincense encourages slower breathing and a greater sense of grounded awareness.

Do you experience sensory fatigue? Try this blend and let us know if you notice any noticeable differences.

Many people underestimate the importance of sensory transitions and move directly from stimulation into attempted rest.

- Emails become television.
- Television becomes scrolling.
- Scrolling becomes bed.

The nervous system is rarely given a clear transition. The Lavender in our transition blend supports relaxation whilst the Frankincense encourages presence and breath awareness.

Over time, consistent use can help create a sensory cue that signals: the day is complete.

Many people notice that warmer weather changes how they respond emotionally: shorter patience, lighter sleep, more mental fatigue or feeling overstimulated.

Our ritual focuses on creating a sense of internal freshness. With Spearmint offering a softer cooling aromatic profile than Peppermint and is often better suited to daily summer rituals. Whilst, Lavender helps soften overstimulation and support steadier energy.

Safety note to remember: Avoid direct sun exposure on freshly applied areas and always patch test.

This ritual isn’t designed to energise - it’s designed to help the body feel more comfortable inside the season.

Did you know? The longer daylight hours, warmer temperatures, increased social activity and disrupted routines can all increase sensory input.

Our Summer Balance Diffuser Blend can help by the Spearmint offering a lighter cooling profile, whilst the Lime brings brightness and emotional uplift, and ht eLavender softens the blend and supports regulation.

Diffuse for 15–20 minutes in the morning.

Remember, Summer balance is not about doing less - it’s about supporting the body so it can enjoy more.

Periods of growth are often marked by quieter, less visible moments - the pause between decisions, the reflection after change, the space where something new is still being processed.

These threshold moments can feel uncertain, not because something is wrong, but because the nervous system is adapting to something unfamiliar. Aromatherapy can gently support this phase by helping the body feel safe enough to slow down and integrate, rather than rush forward.

This blend brings together Frankincense for grounding and breath awareness, Cedarwood for steadiness, and Lavender to soften any underlying tension. Used during journaling, reflection or evening wind-down, it becomes a subtle cue for the body to settle.

Growth doesn’t always need momentum - sometimes it needs space.

Growth isn’t only about what you take on during the day - it’s also about how well the body is able to process and integrate it afterwards.

Even positive experiences such as learning, teaching, presenting or expanding professionally can leave the nervous system holding a level of activation that isn’t always immediately noticeable. Without a clear transition into rest, this can build over time. An end-of-day ritual offers a simple way to signal that the day is complete.

This massage blend brings together Lavender to soften tension, Frankincense to support slower, steadier breathing, and Cedarwood to provide a sense of grounding and stability. Applied through touch, it helps guide the body out of output and into restoration. Used consistently, small rituals like this can support more sustainable growth - where expansion is balanced with recovery, rather than replaced by it.

The moments before speaking, presenting or stepping into visibility are often when the nervous system is most active.

A short inhalation ritual can help shift the body from anticipatory stress into steadier presence.

Here is our Pre-Visibility Inhalation Ritual:
On a cotton pad add:
• 1 drop Bergamot FCF
• 1 drop Frankincense

Hold approximately 10cm from the nose, exhale fully first, then inhale gently and slowly.

Bergamot supports emotional lightness and helps ease the feeling of pressure. Whilst, Frankincense deepens the breath and encourages the body to return to centre.

This is a simple ritual for moments when you do not need more preparation - you need more presence.

Visibility is often framed as a skill - something we learn, practice and improve. But for many people, it is first experienced through the body.

Being seen, heard or evaluated can activate the nervous system in ways that feel physical as much as emotional. Tightness in the chest, quicker breathing or a pull to withdraw are not signs of a lack of ability - they are protective responses. Understanding this can shift the approach. Rather than trying to override these sensations, we can support the body in feeling steadier as it steps forward.

This diffuser blend is designed with that in mind. Bergamot helps ease emotional tension and creates a sense of lightness, Black Pepper brings gentle warmth and forward movement, and Frankincense supports grounding through the breath.

Used before moments of visibility, it can help create a more regulated starting point - where presence feels more accessible, and the body is better able to support what you already know.
