For schools planning adaptations over the summer holidays, now is often when key design and coordination decisions need to be made.

This is particularly true for hygiene rooms in SEND and specialist education environments, where the space needs to support both the needs of the pupil and the practical requirements of the staff using it every day.

Selecting the right equipment is extremely important, but creating a successful hygiene room involves careful consideration and planning of layouts, transfer spaces, structural requirements, plumbing, electrical services, storage, and accessibility. All these elements need to work together as part of the wider design.

The earlier these requirements are addressed, the easier they are to coordinate alongside other project elements and the greater the opportunity to create a space that works well in practice.

With the summer break approaching, now is the time for schools, architects, and project teams to review any planned adaptations ahead of the new academic year.

Stairlifts are often associated with losing independence, but for many they can actually help maintain it. Let us explain...

When stairs start becoming more difficult, people often start changing how they use their home without even realising it. Avoiding trips upstairs, relying more on others, or feeling less confident moving around can gradually become part of everyday life.

A stairlift can help people continue using their home safely and comfortably, without needing to make major changes to familiar surroundings.

Every home and every person is different, which is why factors such as staircase layout, mobility needs and day-to-day use all need to be considered before deciding on the right solution.

At Multicare, we support people throughout the entire process, from assessment to installation, ensuring the solution is tailored to both the environment and the individual using it.

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), a day focused on improving digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people worldwide living with disabilities or impairments.

While much of the conversation today centres around websites, apps and digital experiences, the wider principle remains the same across every environment: accessibility should never be an afterthought.

Whether digital or physical, accessible environments help people enjoy everyday life more independently, safely and confidently, and it’s encouraging to see accessibility continuing to receive greater awareness.

Find out more about GAAD (Global Accessibility Awareness Day) Foundation here: https://accessibility.day/

Thursday, May 15, 2025, help us celebrate the 14th Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)! The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and the more than One Billion people with disabilities/impairments.

In educational environments, classroom hoist systems need to work within busy teaching spaces, support safe and dignified transfers for students, and integrate practically within the wider classroom environment.

In SEND schools and specialist education settings, that often means carefully considering:

- Transfer routes and circulation space
- Ceiling structure and fixing requirements
- Classroom layouts and furniture positioning
- Equipment reach and coverage
- Safe working space for staff
- Future flexibility as student needs change over time

At Multicare, we support schools, contractors, architects, and local authorities with the design, coordination, and installation of classroom ceiling hoist systems that are practical for everyday use and tailored to the needs of the environment.

From single-classroom systems through to more complex multi-room and through-door arrangements, early planning and coordination can make a significant difference to both functionality and long-term usability.

Get in touch with the team today to discuss your hoisting and accessibility requirements ahead of the summer holidays.

How can you deliver safe, dignified care while reducing staff strain in an overstretched care system?

Staff shortages, increased patient needs, and rising injury rates are putting immense pressure on care settings. Every transfer can pose a risk to both caregiver and patient, especially when equipment isn’t suited to the environment.

In care homes, mobile hoists play an important role in maintaining safety, supporting single-handed care where appropriate, and reducing the physical strain of frequent transfers. They not only protect carers from injury but also ensure residents are moved with dignity, comfort, and security.

Investing in the right equipment is critical for protecting the workforce, users, and delivering the best care possible.

The value of specialist BIM input very much depends on when it happens.

Once layouts, services and structural coordination are already progressing, specialist equipment changes become much harder to resolve efficiently.

In accessible and care environments, systems such as ceiling hoists and hygiene equipment can affect transfer clearances, ceiling zones, fixing strategies, equipment reach, access routes, and coordination with surrounding MEP elements. Addressing those requirements early makes coordination significantly easier as the design develops.

At Multicare, our Revit-based BIM support is typically delivered across RIBA Stages 2, 3 and 4.

At Stage 2, this often involves early equipment zoning, transfer spaces, structural considerations, and equipment spatial requirements.

At Stage 3, the focus shifts towards coordinated model development, ensuring specialist equipment interfaces correctly with architectural, structural, and MEP elements as coordination progresses.

By Stage 4, more detailed technical information becomes critical, including fixing requirements, support details, installation constraints, access for maintenance, and overall buildability on site.

Because our BIM support is backed by in-house design, installation, and technical knowledge, the information we provide reflects the practical coordination, installation, and maintenance requirements of these systems in use.

Ceiling hoists are often specified, but not always fully considered. They're one of the most impactful long-term investments in moving and handling, and getting them right takes more than choosing the right equipment.

It requires an understanding of how the space will be used day-to-day, how transfers need to happen, and how different users, carers, and environments interact with the system.

We support projects from early design through to installation and beyond, helping ensure ceiling hoist systems are:

- correctly positioned within the space

- Coordinated with room layouts and building constraints

- designed to support safe, efficient transfers

- practical for both users and carers in everyday use

Because we’re involved across the full process, from assessment and design through to installation, training, and ongoing support, we’re able to focus on what actually works in real environments, and not just what looks right on paper.

Whether it’s a single room or a multi-room system, the details really matter, and when done properly, the difference it makes to safety, dignity, and efficiency is significant.

If you’re working on a project involving ceiling hoists, we’re always happy to talk through what will work best for your environment.

Not every access challenge needs a permanent platform lift so the Stepless LP11 offers a more flexible approach, providing a mobile platform lift solution for environments where step-free access is needed, but fixed installation is not the right fit.

With its lightweight construction, battery-powered operation and width-adjustable upper ramp, the LP11 is designed to be easy to move, position and operate, making it a practical option where accessibility needs may be temporary, occasional or changing over time.

That makes it particularly useful in settings where access needs to be improved without permanent building alterations, or where a portable solution offers greater flexibility day to day.

For organisations looking for a practical and adaptable way to improve accessibility, the LP11 portable platform lift is a smart option.

When a project involves a significant change in level, access can quickly become complex.

The Guldmann Stepless LP7 & LP7+ are designed to tackle that challenge with a practical, well-engineered platform lift solution that can often be installed without a lift pit or major structural work.

With a self-supporting construction and a very low 50mm entry height, the LP7 range is particularly useful where space is limited and a shorter ramp is beneficial. Both models are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, making them a versatile option across a wide range of public, care and education environments.

For projects where a compact lift may not offer enough travel, the LP7 range provides a more capable solution without significantly increasing installation complexity.
