Should. Try. Might. Just. 🚫
Four tiny words that have quietly been running the show for decades.
Most of us have carried society’s shoulds, our mother’s shoulds, our boss’s, our partner’s, and the internet’s, for so long that we’ve stopped noticing whose they even are. Then midlife arrives, and something in you starts to wonder whether you actually want to keep carrying all of that. 👀
Here’s what I know from 15 years of treating bodies and now coaching the women inside them: language is behaviour in disguise. “I’ll try” lets you off the hook before you’ve begun. “Might” keeps one foot out the door. “Just” makes your needs small enough to ignore. And “should” was never yours in the first place.
This is the era of choosing yourself. Raising the bar. Saying no without writing an essay about it. Not because you’re selfish, but because you’ve finally realised you’re allowed to be on your own list. 💛
