NEW MOON AND FULL MOON — WHY MY CEREMONIES ARE DIFFERENT
I’m often asked about the difference between my New Moon and Full Moon gatherings.
Although they are part of the same lunar cycle, energetically they are very different — and that is why the ceremonies I hold around them are different too.
THE NEW MOON — INTENTION, BEGINNINGS AND BECOMING
The New Moon marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle.
The sky is dark, the Moon appears hidden from us, and there is a feeling of quiet possibility. A blank page. A moment to turn inward and ask ourselves what we would like to bring into our lives.
This is where we plant the seed.
What would I like to create?
What would I like to change?
How would I like to feel?
What am I ready to begin?
From the New Moon, the Moon begins to wax — growing brighter night after night.
We can work with that rising energy by setting intentions and then beginning to give those intentions our attention, our energy and our action.
New Moon: Pause. Intend. Plant. Build. Become.
This is why my New Moon ceremonies are centred around intention setting, looking forward, creating and calling something new into our lives.
THE FULL MOON — CULMINATION, CELEBRATION AND RELEASE
The Full Moon is very different.
The Moon is fully illuminated. The lunar cycle has reached its peak.
For me, the Full Moon isn't simply about letting go. Before we release anything, we stop and acknowledge what has happened since the beginning of the cycle.
What has grown?
What has changed?
What have I achieved?
What have I learned?
What deserves to be celebrated?
And then we ask another important question:
**What no longer needs to come with me?**
As the Moon begins to wane and her light gradually decreases, we use this part of the cycle to consciously release what no longer serves us — perhaps an old belief, pattern, expectation, habit or emotional weight.
Full Moon: Culmination. Illumination. Celebrate. Release. Let go.
And this is why my Full Moon ceremonies have a different feel and a different purpose.
They are about acknowledgement and celebration, followed by release — creating space for what comes next.
Neither ceremony is more powerful than the other.
They simply meet us at different points in the cycle.
The New Moon asks:
What am I ready to begin?
The Full Moon asks:
What can I celebrate, and what am I ready to release?
This is why you won't experience exactly the same ceremony at a New Moon gathering as you will at a Full Moon gathering at Sorrel & Sage Woodland Wisdom.
The intention behind them is different.
Because there is a time to begin.
A time to grow.
A time to celebrate.
And a time to let go.
And I think there is something rather beautiful about learning to honour them all.
