This is a great clip demonstrating the point I commonly make in Pilates.

The slow motion clip shows Rory ‘winding’ up his swing segment by segment. If any one part of that swing is restricted on rotation the whole sequence is limited.

Some of my golfing clients often combine there spine twist with hip rotation simultaneously out of habit. This can result in limited range somewhere in the rotation of the swing or loss of power as the abdominals during the ‘wind up’ are not fully activated.

Functional movements such as the golf swing often or always involve combined global movements involving multiple joints but if we don’t work on the specific break down of those movements we can miss the full potential of the complete movement.

This is a great infographic and highlights concisely what I find myself telling clients day in day out.
Be kind to yourself, don’t force it, gentle persuasion consistently.
It’s ok to notice discomfort it’s the. Bodies way of adapting. This should be short lived and manageable. With chronic pain the body and brain needs to be reminded that moment is safe gently encouraged comfortable movement rather than punishing movement! ❤️

Exercise is one of the most studied non-drug treatments for chronic pain. Gentle movement can help calm the body’s pain signals, reduce inflammation, and release natural chemicals that ease pain and support mood. Over time, it can also make everyday activities feel more manageable.

Research shows that exercise consistently improves strength and physical function. Changes in pain levels are different for everyone, and some people may notice more improvement than others.

It’s also important to note that exercise is a form of stress on the body. Doing too much too quickly can lead to flares, which is why the right “dose” and slow, steady progress matter.
At our next pain science lecture on 3/2, Dr. Joshua Hardy will review what the science tells us about exercise and pain, including how it works, what risks to watch for, and how to start safely.

Taylormade Performance and rehabilitation teaches Modified Pilates following The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI). This method combines traditional Pilates with the most current research into spinal stability. It breaks the exercises down into clearly defined levels to produce a gradual progression of load and control. Using this framework of exercises, we operate in the knowledge that our practices are up to date, safe and effective ensuring the most appropriate outcome for every client. This may be performance related, muscle toning, rehabilitation, posture or just to be able to move more efficiently and free of pain and stiffness. Whatever the objective our program has a proven track record of success.
