Through culture change, and the availability of ready meals, people have lost their confidence to cook, but here’s the thing, you don’t have to be Nigella to eat well and enjoy it!

Next Wednesday (24th of June) in my hometown of Horsham, I’ll be helping women realise the power of food for nourishing hormones and helping to build good raw materials in their bodies that drive energy and mood!

This will take place with some of the lovely ladies at Thermomix, who will demonstrate how to make life easy in the kitchen.

Today is Alzheimer’s Prevention Day 💚

This disease is not a given in old age. Every Day could be Alzheimer’s Prevention Day if we ensure a regular and consistent amount of the following:

Ensure a diet rich in Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids; oily fish and chia seeds are two key sources as well as quality supplementation with good levels of EPA and DHA. I like Bare Biology and have a discount code if you’re interested.

Get a test to check your Vitamin D and B12 levels. These micronutrients are vital for brain function.

Challenge yourself - don’t stop learning, and give your brain problem solving tasks or difficult actions. A simple one? Balance on one leg and brush your teeth thoroughly with your non-dominant hand.

Stay connected; Isolation is a main driver of cognitive decline. Meaningful conversations and contribution to the world outside of ourselves produce chemicals that make us feel that we make a difference.

Get your hearing checked from age 50 upwards. Deafness is common denominator in cognitive decline

Move your body every day - walking, lifting, reaching, balancing and short workouts that don’t over-stress the body.

Keep beige foods at bay and ensure good levels of fibre from green plant sources as well as bright coloured veggies and berries. Balanced blood sugar levels go a long way to maintaining good health.

Herbs that help; sage, saffron and rosemary. Include with food or via organic essential oils.

Manage stress well. Steer clear of energy vampires, get help during difficult times and never “keep it all in.”

Ensure regular bowel movements with healthy formed stools.

Acknowledge that you deserve the very best that life has to offer.

The greatest gift that you can give to loved ones is taking the best care of yourself.

The power of prevention can never be fully appreciated.

Is it ever enough? 🤔

We sometimes question ourselves as coaches. Rightly so. Complacency kills.

I loved working with my client, Dan, who came to me with digestive issues that took some of the joy out of his day.

When a gut specialist or dietician failed to help, I was referred by Dan’s wife to “have a chat”…

Our planned chat turned into a deep dive of Dan’s whole life.

This is where we find answers and better questions.

Working 1-2-1 is my favourite work. It lets people have the attention that they need and to listen to their own body in a way they never have.

Nutrition, lifestyle optimisation, and being more “self” orientated that comes from ease and not guilt, is a great way to start feeling good.

As part of HALO 55, (Health and Life Optimisation for women over 55), I invited my friend to speak at the session and help women get clear on;

STRESS

How to notice it, how to take action with their minds and bodies, the power of breath and appreciation of living in the present moment.

The session was super insightful. Using simple methods that can quickly take us from fight or flight to a rest and digest state inside of 3 minutes was golden.

Mid fifties is a time for re-appreciation of ourselves where the mainline narrative is loss, confusion, and lack of oomph.

Learning how our minds and bodies work is a handbook to thriving in later life.

A great couple of hours spent with a wonderful lunch to wrap up.

Sometimes all we need is space, our breath, a slower pace and zero guilt to get us over the hump of a bug or virus.

Salt is a doctor of nature and I’m really happy that we have the on our doorstep 🙏🏻💚

If you have breathing issues, need some calm, and want to enhance your wellbeing then I can’t recommend them enough.
