Hi, Im kirsty, the face & hands behind Away Pain Therapy & Brighton Scarwork 👋

As a graduate sports therapist I am capable of treating a wide range of musculoskeletal presentations, as well as chronic & acute pain and injury. I incorporate a number of modalities into my approach, including joint mobilisations, muscle energy work, soft tissue release, kinesiology taping & medical acupuncture. But, with my roots in massage, my style of treatmemt is heavily soft tissue massage based.

With a strong interest in working with the nervous system, i create a safe and therapeutic environment for people to find relief from tension & pain, combining clinical reasoning with intuition & nuturing hands on treatment.

When not in clinic, I work for the NHS in cardiac rehab, utilising my exercise physiology knowledge to support those in rehabilitation post a cardiac event ❤️ as well as writing & delivering anatomy & massage training 👩‍🎓

Specialising in treatments for the jaw, head, neck & shoulders, offering relief from common symptoms relating to stress, posture & maladapted movement patterns, I support treatment with exercise prescription & education.

Clinics based on the Drive, central Hove & Portland road, west Hove.

Deer pose in is a pose that targets both internal & external rotation of the hips, and alleviates tension in the quads, glutes & outer hip area.

Pose 1 is sleeping deer - bringing in a deeper opening for the external rotators.

Pose 2 is watchful deer - a grumbly knee & very tight external rotators on this side makes this the right choice for me.

No two sides of the body are the same, what can be achieved on one side may not be the best choice for the other side - & thats ok !!!

Yin is all about working WITH the body at a level thats right for you at that time. Going to the point of sensatiion, but never forcing. The use of props support your postures to enable fully releasing into the pose, which allows the tissues & nervous system to de-sensitise, & let the focus be on breath.

Each pose held for 1 minute

DM if interested in the free yin tag-ons to sports therapy sessions available now !

(Ps - this is one of my least favourite positions as i cant do it very well 🤣 but again.... yin is about how it FEELS not how it LOOKS & after the work, my hips are moving into external rotation with more ease)

You're seeing this because you lay in bed at 5am thinking of all the things you have to get done tomorrow (& the next day & the next day).....

You're seeing this because the pace of life is leaving your energy drained & your muscles tight......

You're seeing this because now its time you did something FOR YOU.

Giving yourself some time to switch off & reset the nervous system is not a luxury to save for 'treats'.... it is a proactive step to long term physical & mental wellbeing.....

The remedial relaxation treatment comprises 30 mins body massage, 20 mins face & head work & 30 mins reflexology - & is a great way to turn down the volume of a busy mind & tap into the parasympathetic nervous system.

Self care is not a luxury.
You cant pour from an empty cup.
Today, do something for you.

Bookings available next week, monday, thursday & saturday 🫶

⭐️ April is stress awareness month ⭐️

The world health organisation has dubbed stress as the modern day health epidemic..... (no sh** sherlock....the pace of modern life outstripped our capacity long ago IMO !)

But with awareness & proactive steps you can avoid burnout 👊

The 5 staged Stress intelligence model is about raising personal intelligence around your stress experiences.

1 - stress awareness - understand your triggers & responses to stress

2 - stress knowledge - understand the impact stress can have on the mental & physical health

3 - self care - commit to regular self care & establish boundaries

4 - lifestyle management - maintain & healthy lifestyle & understand how choices such as food & physical activity can impact on stress resilience

5 - everyday energy - create moments every day to replenish & protect your energy

We all respond differently to stress - & have different triggers.

How do you react? Maybe you experience headaches? Or muscle tension? Do you clench your jaw? Loose motivation? Experience brain fog? You might cry more easily or loose your appettite....

Take some time to learn how YOU respond to stress, and WHAT makes you stressed.... only then can you control stress before it controls you.

Healing the discomfort at source ✨

I’ve been focusing a lot lately on treating the head, face, and jaw as a connected system, and the results for my patients has been incredible.

By releasing deep-seated tension in the masseter, facial and cranial muscles, we’re seeing massive breakthroughs in TMJ discomfort, neck tension and chronic headaches.

It’s not just about relaxation—it’s about restoring function and finally getting some peace from those constant niggles
