Christmas is an exciting time for many, but for others it can heighten feeling of loneliness and isolation. Even when you physically have people around you, it may feel no one really knows how you feel.

There are some things you may be able to do to help to get you through the festive season...

⭐️ if you don't feel able to share how you feel, connect with people in other ways, through a shared interest or hobby or text that friend you haven't spoken to all year (its not too late!)
⭐️ if you can't say it, write it down, for some people, writing down their inner thoughts and feelings can really help
⭐️ don't beat yourself up for not feeling happy, lots of people feel sad at Christmas, telling yourself off won't make you feel better
⭐️ do the things that you want to do, your needs don't always have to come last
⭐️ get outside and move your body, even if its raining/ snowing/ blowing a gale
⭐️ remember feelings change, you won't always feel this way
⭐️ you don't have to wait until the new year to make changes, make the changes you need today!
⭐️ if you find yourself in crisis, get help, contact the NHS 111 support, samaritans or your local mental health crisis support.

This week marks 1 year since I started my private practice! ✨️

I've been very lucky to work with a number of wonderful people over the last 12 months and watch them reach their therapy goals.

I can't wait to see what another year brings 🌼

Demystifying Therapy...

*It isn't just talking about your problems...therapy involves making active changes
*It isn't just for people with serious mental health problems... many people can benefit from therapy, addressing everyday anxiety or low mood
*coming to therapy doesn't mean you are weak....it takes lots of courage and strength to speak about your difficulties and get help
* Not all therapy is the same... Different types of therapy work in different ways. Sometimes you need to try different approaches to see what works for you
* You don't have to be in therapy for a long time... some problems can be resolved in a few sessions

With Mothers Day approaching, I thought I'd share something on perinatal mental health 💛

The perinatal period starts from the moment you start trying for a baby, being pregnant, to looking after your young baby.

Each stage can bring it's own challenges, whether this is anxiety about getting pregnant/ being pregnant, depression as a result of failed pregnancy attempts, a fear of giving birth, trauma as a result of baby loss or experiencing a traumatic birth, or depression and anxiety once baby has arrived. Existing difficulties such as OCD, depression and generalised anxiety can also intensify during the perinatal period.

Many women experience these difficulties, and it's so important to reach out and get support if you find yourself struggling at any point.

CBT is one treatment option for anyone struggling with their mental health in the perinatal period. Having gone through my own challenges when having my own children, it's something I'm passionate about working with, so if therapy is something you're considering, get in touch for a free consultation to find out more.

What should I expect from therapy?

What therapy IS:

✔️ a safe space for you to talk openly and honestly
✔️ collaboratively working together with your therapist to make positive changes
✔️ challenging; it gets you to think about things in a different way and supports you to do things you may not have thought you could
✔️ reflective of the past, but with a focus on where you want to get to in the future
✔️ acknowledging how your background/culture/age/identity/ethnicity/sexuality/faith influences you and using this to inform treatment

What therapy IS'NT:

❌️ a 'one size fits all' approach; although treatment is based on research and evidence, therapy is adaptable to meet your needs
❌️ a 'magic pill'; therapy involves hard work and takes time for changes to be effective
❌️ somewhere you have to bare all your darkest secrets; it's up to you what you share, and when you feel ready to do this
❌️ just talking about the past; although understanding the past can be helpful, focus should also be on moving forward
❌️ something that is done 'to' you; equal participation between you and the therapist is essential

I'm back after a well needed xmas break 😌

My new year goals are to make myself more of a priority and to only say yes to things that are important to me and my values.

Instead of striving for unrealistic standards, how about trying something small that might make a big difference....

🥰 do one act of self care a day
💛 say something kind to yourself every morning
⏳️ spend 10 minutes each day being in the moment🌳 spend 30 minutes outside every day
