Summer sun can fade, irritate, and damage a fresh tattoo fast so the right aftercare matters from day one.

Fresh tattoos and strong UV exposure don’t mix.

A new tattoo is healing skin, and exposing it to the sun too soon can lead to irritation, delayed healing, and in some cases, colour that doesn’t heal as vibrantly as it should. That’s why keeping a fresh tattoo out of direct sunlight is one of the most important parts of aftercare.

Once your tattoo is fully healed, make sunscreen part of your routine.

A quality SPF 30 or SPF 50 helps to:

My lad who is my apprentice had his very first oil painting study with still life on Saturday.
I taught him a very basic approach with just one pigment burnt umber and he had to draw out the subject then control the values to create an under painting.

He absolutely smashed it and has so much potential, what do you think?

SUNBURNT? YOUR TATTOO APPOINTMENT WILL HAVE TO WAIT. ☀️

With summer here, it’s worth talking about something that catches a lot of people out.

If you’ve been sunburnt, I won’t tattoo the affected area and you’ll lose your deposit and will still have to pay for the appointment in full.

Sunburn is a form of skin damage. The skin is already inflamed, sensitive and trying to repair itself. Tattooing over sunburn doesn’t just make the process far more painful, it can also:

☀️ Increase the risk of poor healing.
☀️ Affect how the ink settles in the skin.
☀️ Increase the chance of complications and infection if the skin is damaged or peeling.
☀️ Lead to an unpredictable final result.

My priority is giving you the best tattoo possible, not simply getting ink into skin.

If you’re due to be tattooed, protect the area from the sun in the days leading up to your appointment. A little sunscreen, suitable clothing and a bit of planning can save you from having to reschedule.
