Tears for the One Who Had to Go

Sometimes my tears are not for me,
nor for the grief
that lives within my heart.
They are for the one who had to go,
for the soul that left too soon.

I do not cry
because I was left behind,
I cry
because you had to leave.

And sometimes I cry
for the weight you carried in silence,
for the battles
no one ever saw,
for the nights you smiled through the pain
so the world would never know
how weary your soul had become.

I cry for the dreams
that will remain unfulfilled,
for the places you will never see,
for the hands you will never hold again,
and for all the little things
you thought you still had time for.

My tears are for the moments
you will never get to live.

They are for every unfinished sentence,
every unspoken word,
every "I love you"
that lingered in the silence
because we believed
there would always be
another day.

So the tears spill from my eyes,
not asking to be understood,
not asking to be comforted,
because some goodbyes
are too deep for words.

My tears are not for me,
or even for my own broken heart.

They are for the one who had to go,
for the journey you never chose,
for the goodbye
you never deserved,

and for the part of you
that will forever remain
here,

in the hearts
of those who loved you,
who remember you,
and who were never ready
to let you go.

Today I received this lovely message from one of my client’s. Yesterday was our last session together, always a bittersweet moment for me as I don’t like Goodbye’s, but take comfort in knowing my client’s are ready to let me go.
As this lady said she knows I will be here if she needs me in the future. This happens frequently, when a client comes back for a one off session or would like to see me again for a few weeks. It doesn’t mean they have taken a step backwards, it just means they need to talk. And that is what I always say, on our first session and our last session, that I will always be here. I won’t cast you adrift. I won’t tell you that you can only have 6 sessions. I won’t tell you I don’t work evenings or weekends. We will do this together, until the time you tell me you are ready to take the next step 🕊️

Fantastic presentation and Q&A session with Mell today at the Cancer support Group. Mell’s wealth of knowledge was amazing, particularly around insurance and making sure you are adequately covered when travelling with illness, or pre existing conditions.

💜 Bereavement Group- Wednesday 29th July 💜

Losing someone to cancer can feel incredibly isolating, but you don’t have to face it alone.

Our Bereavement Group offers a warm, welcoming space where you can share your thoughts and feelings (if you wish), connect with others who understand, and find support in a safe and understanding environment.

📅 Wednesday 29th July
🕦 11:30am-1:00pm
📍 Unit 1, Navigation House, Belmont Bridge, Skipton, BD23 1RL

The group is facilitated by Jo Onions from RESET Grief Counselling and meets on the last Wednesday of every month.

If you or someone you know has been bereaved following a cancer diagnosis, you’re very welcome to join us. No one should have to navigate grief alone. 💜
