🕷️ Tick Season: Small, Sneaky, and Seriously Unwelcome 🕷️

One of our team had the classic moment: spotted something tiny, hoped it was a grass seed… but spoiler alert, OH NO, it was a tick 😱

This one was found in a garden, a reminder that ticks don’t always wait in the wilds to make an appearance. If you do find one, it’s important to get it removed as soon as possible and to keep an eye out for symptoms afterwards.

For safe removal and what to look out for see NHS Inform.

A quick refresher to help stay protected:

🟢 Stick to paths and avoid long grass
🟢 Wear long sleeves and tuck trousers into socks
🟢 Use insect repellent
🟢 Check yourself after being outdoors
🟢 Check children and check pets too

Stay alert, they really can be everywhere and act fast.

If you notice that your teen seems down or withdrawn it may be because they’re feeling lonely.

Even if they have lots of friends or if they’re surrounded by family, they can still feel lonely, misunderstood or like they don’t fit in. And teens often feel emotions like loneliness even more strongly than adults. For tips on how to support your teen or young person if they are withdrawn or feeling isolated, visit – ParentClub.scot

Putting a Power of Attorney (PoA) in place is one of the most practical and caring decisions any of us can make.

Today NHS Highland and The Highland Council are launching Highland Power of Attorney Month to encourage every adult across the Highland area to appoint someone they trust to make decisions on their behalf, should they ever be in a position where they are unable to do so for themselves.

In his second video, Councillor David Fraser, Chair of The Highland Council’s Health, Social Care and Wellbeing Committee explains the peace of mind that comes with having a Power of Attorney in place.

As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2026, this is the perfect opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers across NHS Highland. The kindness, compassion and generosity shown by our volunteers make a real and lasting difference every single day. Whether they are offering a warm welcome, giving their time to support patients and families, helping staff, or simply being a reassuring presence, all of their contributions are deeply valued. Volunteers bring something truly special to our services, and we are sincerely grateful for the time they give to help others.

Carers Scotland Highland Roadshow 2nd June

What does a carer look like? Unpaid carers are all around us. They can be a colleague, a friend, a neighbour, a patient, or even you. Many people support someone they care about without ever realising it, and without knowing that help is available.

In this video, carer and Clinical Nurse Manager Wendi Forbes talks about who unpaid carers are, and the importance of speaking openly about caring and accepting support if you find yourself in this situation.

If you’re looking after someone in your personal life and wondering whether you might be an unpaid carer, you’re not alone.

If you’d like to chat to services in person, come along to the Carers Scotland event on Tuesday 2nd June, 11:00am–8:00pm, Inverness Leisure, Bught Lane, Inverness.

A range of organisations will be there to support unpaid carers and there’s more information, advice and support waiting for you on our website.
